Predicting the Tag

Geez, how many times has it been explained that the tag for OL is the same. We’d be paying Norwell elite LT money and no Kalil doesn’t make elite LT money. He’s 11th in salary. The OL tag this year will be $15M. Norwell would take that in a heartbeat and sign a long term deal next year. That would be a 50% bonus for one year.

Man you'd think people would read previous post or look it up.

And for perspective only 3 teams outside of the panthers get close to paying more than one player elite money on their Oline. Those teams are dallas, Cleveland, and Oakland.

Dallas it's their center and LT, Oakland pays two guards 10 mil but Norwell and turner would make more than both of them and their LT held out last camp for more money, and Cleveland it's their LT and a guard.

So you want to give Norwell 14M AND Ryan Kalil 10M for just this year? Too many other holes to fill. Only way Signing Norwell works is to keep his first year cap hit around 7M(like Trai). Also, about what we save cutting Kalil. Your scenario would leave with many rookies and get minimum players filling out the roster.

So you want to get Cam killed? Too many plays will be lost with a crap OG beside the Kalils.

"Spoke w/ Giants source on Andrew Norwell," Forbes Tweeted. "Said Giants prepared make Norwell highest paid Guard NFL History. And if new Agent Drew Rosenhaus takes Norwell elsewhere (49ers) it would create friction in relationship. Assumes Panthers don't Tag Norwell... But Giants are SERIOUS."

IMO, one of Ryan Kalil or Norwell has to go. Norwell is going to be the easiest guy to replace in the draft because it seems to be a pretty strong interior lineman draft. Ryan will be harder to replace but keep in mind he barely played at all last season, so the justification for $10 million in salary is pretty weak.

In my ideal scenario, we get rid of them both, are able to get a high caliber draft pick to replace NorwelI(which we should not have to trade up to get), and can land a serviceable replacement for Ryan Kalil in free agency. It would be nice to get a replacement for Matt Kalil as well. I don't think there are too many WORSE options in the draft or free agency but I realize it might be hard to justify one of the highest paid OL in the league being a back up.

It is going to be difficult moving forward to have four highly paid OL next season(both Kalil's, Norwell and Turner). That means you probably have to let Daryl Williams walk next offseason because we can't easily get out from under Matt Kalil's contract until the 2019 free agency(if memory serves).

This is why Matt Kalil's contract was such an amazing horrific blunder. We don't have much flexibility with the rest of our grossly overpaid line.

If they want to pay him that much money, zero reason not to let him go.

Can't tag Norwell. Can't pay an OG top 5 LT money.

If we use the tag my bet would be Gano. Kickers and punters are by far the most often tagged positions because it's relatively cheap to tag them.

Of course they can...you come across like such a douche.  They aren't tagging the Kicker.  Jesus.  Where is that ignore thing.  :eyeroll:

Educate yourself son, lest you come across like such a moron.

In 2012 alone, five kickers were tagged — more than the combined number of quarterbacks in this nine-year period.

So before you ask, "Who gives a kicker the franchise tag?" stop and look at the data.

In a perfect world Kalil restructures this off season and frees up reasonable money for Norwell. Then we cut Matt next off-season and frees up that money for Williams.

Because having Norwell tagged at 14/15 million, Kalil at just under 12 million, and turner at 11.5 million considering we already have limited cap space and other needs would be a horrible way to manage the current cap. I know we all love the white Buffalo and he's elite but you really  can't tie all that cap into a line when you're trying to contend for a Superbowl. The browns can do that type of poo before they have money to burn

Option A:  Sign Norwell, draft a receiver

Option B:  let Norwell go, draft a guard, sign a receiver in free agency

Option C:  Sign Norwell, Sign a receiver, and maybe have to let Williams go next year and/or have less cap space to spend on other positional groups.

For whatever reason I feel like we can find a decent guard in the draft easier than a decent receiver so B might seem the way to go.
