Marty Hurney Has Been Reinstated

So an interim GM in a contentious divorce was found not to have committed the accusations she claimed. Big deal. And maybe Hurney gets to do this draft and free agency which have already been largely arranged for before new ownership rides in and picks their guy. And Richardson is a dirty old white guy who is selling his team which we have known was coming for years.

The angst here is being generated by a handful of hysterics with all kind of conspiracy theories and speculations. I can't tell if it for attention or what but the sky is not falling and when the dust settles we will be fine.

LOL there are plenty of better candidates besides Marty Hurney

That's not a conspiracy theory

No need to take personal shots, considering we are all posting on a Panthers message board. Is Mr. Scot not allowed to express his thoughts because he isn't an NFL owner?

That rules out all of us.

Besides Ludwig because we all know he is secretly JR

And if we were picking a GM for the long term you might be right but we aren't. For right now until a new owner is chosen in a few months Hurney is the only one who has actually been a GM and knows the plan and so far the second time around appears by opinions doing a much better job. This is not a long term decision we are making so why the angst as if it was.

Would you like to justify for me that Marty Hurney is a better choice than Lake Dawson or Jimmy Raye?

Unless you can do that, then you'd have to acknowledge that the team is making a stupid choice.

The constant complaining and blindly trashing every single person in our organization is just getting extremely tiring around here. Maybe I should just stop reading for a while until things settle down with a new owner.

I know it would be a gigantic waste of time, energy, and a mistake to pick a different GM, only to have to change GM again once new ownership has settled in.

The problem with that notion is that it's not guaranteed a new owner will fire the GM, not even with Hurney.

That's basically like saying "well we may as well not have a coach since the new owner's going to fire him anyway".

Would you rather have Gettleman or Dawson as GM?

I’ll try but you seem set in your ways right now.

Whoever is technically hired as “permanent GM” will still really only be here in the interim until new ownership brings in their own people. Hurney has already built and developed a relationship with most of the staff here and can just get right to doing the GM work in the interim. If a new GM was hired instead, the amount of groundwork required to get him up to speed with our staff, front office, scouts, etc. would be a significant setback and there is absolutely a legitimate argument that having Hurney stay here until new owner brings his own staff in is the best option for the team’s success.

IF I believed that whoever we “hire” would actually last into the new ownership and actually be more or less permanent, then I’d be as adamant as you about not keeping Hurney. But that’s just not how I read the situation and there’s nothing to suggest that whoever we hire now will last, and plenty of evidence throughout history that suggests he won’t.

You can argue that hiring Dawson or Rayes for 6-9 months and having them run the draft and FA instead of Hurney outweighs the learning curve and relationship building period struggles, and I wouldn’t say you’d be wrong necessarily. But there are arguments both ways and constantly bitching about it here and being as over the top as you are has gotten to be completely ridiculous and tiring.

Dawson, and that's an incredibly ignorant question (but I'm not surprised).

Gettleman shouldn't have been fired, but he was and now has a job elsewhere. He's not coming back, nor should he. Teams rarely rehire fired officials (except for Marty Hurney of course, but that's because Jerry Richardson is an idiot).
