Scott Turner: No need to change Cam

Good to see we don't have to worry about him trying to be forced to throw from the pocket again:

"What he has done has really refined his game, really become a pro, but he's going to play his way," Turner said. "He's going to run -- that's what makes him the dynamic player he is -- but also making the throws in the pocket, going through his reads. All of those things come from experience, and he's played seven seasons now."

I always believed he would become the best QB in football. In my opinion he is. He has those extra dimensions the other guys can't duplicate. Lots of QBs can run but can they run power? Can they juke and break ankles? Can they jump over the pile? Can they truck LBs and CBs? His combination of size, force, speed, agility, great downfield accuracy, leadership by example, etc. etc.

My problem with the NFL is I feel that for years they intentionally sanctioned the stereotypical QB and what they should and shouldn't DO or BE on the field. Cam was the threat that had to be dealt with sanctioned blatantly "illegal" head shots, a free for all that continued into the SB.

I just want to see us focusing on having an overall offense and calling plays that help Cam and the offense be successful rather than hoping that Cam can help the offense and play call be successful.

So what you're saying is that coach's choices in play-design and play-calling can contribute to the success of a play?

Dude... radical.

You sure you don't want to reconsider this insanity?

I am all for keeping Cam as a dual threat QB vs limiting his running. However, they gotta get the ball outta his hands quicker. Does that mean changing Cam or changing the playbook? To be honest, I think it’s a little bit of both. I hated Shula’s plays but I can’t tell u how many times I was screaming at my TV for Cam to just get rid of the ball.

Cam might have been held back by dumb coaching, but let’s also not pretend Cam is perfect either. He’s got plenty of things he can improve on. I don’t think anything drastic needs to happen tho in order for him to reach his potential.

I am hopeful that Scott and Norv can help Cam fix the things that Mike and Ken could not. Everyone knows the issues but little changed. Cam is going to evolve from running to passing as he ages and can't take the punishment any longer. That isn't a debate. The issue is helping him by getting the talent he needs and helping him maximize the skills and abilities he has.
