Catscratchreader has us dumpster diving for free agent receivers

Time to start seeing the big picture. Some of us tend to treat free agency as if our entire cap figure can be applied to the one position being discussed.  If we do not re-sign Norwell and Star and if we cut Sheperd, Stew, Ryan Kalil, and CJ, we have about $30m.  With that $30m, we will need to sign four or five key free agents.

I think we spend our cap figure on maybe WR, S, CB, and/or DE.  We are not signing Murray (DE) or Landry (WR), but there are some hidden gems at WR we could bring in for about $6-8m.  Look for good WRs in systems that were not overly productive.

Paul Richardson turns only 26 in April. He has lots of potential - he caught 44 passes for 703 yards and six touchdowns in 2017

Jordan Matthews did not fare well in his first season in Buffalo. He caught 25 passes before getting knocked out for the year with injuries. Perhaps Matthews can bounce back in a better offense next year.

Donte Moncrief proved that he was just a byproduct of Andrew Luck's elite passing, as he really struggled without him in 2017. However, he still has some potential, and at 25, he has time to improve.

Wallace is my biggest fear.  My preference is Richardson.  If you ask me, I think we need an impact player but can't afford a superstar.  Samuel must step up.  If we find a RB or two in the draft (a good draft for RB), we can use CMC more in the passing game.  No need to overspend here.  Funchess has improved each year and will be in a contract year.

Mathews? Hell no, that’s the last guy we need

We need a proven vet like Wallace. Watkins should be our main target

but to ignore guys that may produce over their pricetag is a winning strategy.

Edit

IS NOT A WINNING STRATEGY

That sounds like the same strategy we have had for the last 23 years, and it hasn’t been working.

Apparantly spending more than 5 million on a FA WR is an outrageous amount for our cheap franchise

The NFL wants passing TDs and big plays down field to superstars. That's why they changed the rules to favor high octane passing teams. Lunch pail blue collar teams that don't address the WR position should finish middle of the pack or worse. It's now 2018 and we're still trying to model ourselves after the 90's Steelers. Break the bank for LBs? Shop at Dollar General for WRs? Make your secretaries wear tight jeans and shave their legs? What fuging year is it? We have a team from the 90's and a front office from the worst part of the 60's. That's totally backwards from what I would want for this Franchise.

The good news is that change is coming. RR get's a whiff of JR leaving and he promptly fires Shula. Wow! Now go get a star for Cam to throw the ball to down field. Even Jake had Smith.

Finding value for your dollar..

wow what a fugin stupid thing to do.

I need to go buy $10 gallon of milk because i just really need THAT milk in my fridge

How do you know it’s stupid? The panthers have been doing it your way & the people who pied you’s way for quite awhile now, and don’t have back to back winning seasons or an overall winning record to show for it.

To get different results, you have to do things differently. To go along with your analogy though, no I wouldn’t get a $10 gallon of milk, but I’d consider upgrading from the crap milk I was using and if that meant I had to spend a little bit more on milk to get better results, then I’d consider it. The Eagles went out and got Alshon & Torrie Smith (aka, they had to spend a little dough to bring them in). Maybe we need to up what we’re spending on WRs, instead of going for bottom of the barrel guys.

some of you are that guy that goes out with $10 and come back with fuged up sshit and your wife hates you and sleeps with her boss.

You’re the guy that goes Walmart cheap on your wife’s wedding ring thinking she’ll appreciate you for being cheap, and she talks bad about you to her co worker and she ends up with him on the side because he’ll spend a little dough on her at lunch.

Truthfully, none of us as fans of the panthers (especially us younger fans who’s only been panther fans) don’t know what a winning strategy is, as we haven’t been a consistent winner.

But what if you are lactose intolerant? Does that mean I have to buy pricier soy or nut based WR's?

Could be worse.  Your wife could sleep with your boss.

I don't know what you define as a winning strategy, but making the playoffs 4 out of 5 years and winning the division for 3 straight years is a winning strategy for pretty much every franchise in the NFL.  For all but really 1 franchise that is being a consistent winner.

Look, im down for paying up to get a good WR in here, but we need the cap space to do it. And i think there are more serious holes on this team such as our secondary and DE positions.

And i honestly believe gettleman would have made us very consistent winner, yet our problem was and always has been a meddling owner.

Let me have a little fun on here sheesh. Starting to think you are MY wife. Lol.  Simetimes i go at it in a way to ruffle some jimmies. Its CH after all.

Unfortunately, it seems like the reality is that there will be a ton of FA money available this offseason so whatever few difference makers at WR there may be in play, they are gonna get overpaid.  This means we aren't going to be in the running for most, if any, of them unless someones just dying to make less to play with Cam.
