I'n still not sure how people cite the Steve Smith cut as being a bad decision when we had the best season in team history and went to the Super Bowl just two years later

Key words being "Two years later".   Steve Smith has his issues but that was what made him so great.   Cam needed weapons and SS was one of the best in the business.

That means we only had one season in-between, and even with a lesser record we still went to the playoffs and won a game.

Cutting Steve Smith wasn't exactly something that we needed a long time to recover from.

And Cam was a big reason why Steve Smith was cut.  His performance improved after Smith was gone.

sorry but you’re not going to get alot of articulation out of kkl on this subject. he pretty much divides all GMs into two pools: those who never cut smith over being a locker room cancer (a-ok in his book) and those who actually did (gettleman robbed him of his no.2 most important life goal of witnessing steve smith retire as a panther; his no.1 most important life goal is being able to cook his own dinner some day)

Yeah because Gettelmen had great drafts and didn't lose a franchise player for literally no reason at all and pretty much cost himself back to back winning seasons with his on and off off season decision making..

Hurney had to go the first time he was the GM. Terrible decisions on draft picks (outside the first round), terrible on Free Agency and horrific on CAP management.

Gettleman wasn't much better.  His decisions to cut valuable players (Smitty and Norman) without a plan going forward are just as bad as Hurney inept decisions.

I was on the Gettleman bandwagon and though I scratched my head on some of his picks.  I fell right inline with what he was doing.  Looking back his picks didn't help this team very much.  3 of his 5 first rounders didn't do us any justice.   KB, Shaq and Butler were not very good picks for a first rounders.   One is gone and the other two are sporadic players, at best.   First rounders should be full time starters not rotational players.

Rehiring Hurney for a short term was a desperation move, at best.  I still cannot believe that firing Gettleman hadn't been on JR's mind long before he fired him.  He should have pulled the plug well before Beane ever got hired in Buffalo.  We had a potential young GM in our system.   JR should have fired Gettleman and promoted Beane after the 2016 season.  Long before he ever got hired away to Buffalo.

As I said, rehiring Hurney was a desperation move and though he didn't do too bad.  Sticking with him should have never been an option.  The search should have started immediately and a new GM should have been hired the day after we lost in the playoffs.

The 90% to 10% of the poll pretty much agrees with me.  Those that think sticking with Gettleman was any better are blind (as I was) and he was equally bad as Hurney (arguably worse), other than getting us out of CAP hell.

Hurney needs to go.  End of Story.

This right here is a perfect example.. Not a Hurney guy at all.. But does not make dumbass excuses and God worship Gettelmen.. So he will be labeled a Hurney guy...

Bring up the fact he didn't just cut Smitty.. His Dumbass change the whole WR Corp and put Bell and Chandler at Tackle.. So not only did Cam go into the season with a WR group "He hadn't played a down with" he was being protected by a sorry tackle who was "left handed" and a DT.....???? Let that sink in.. But Scot will act like he did no wrong...
