So in the latest podcast they discuss deep positions. They list QB, RB, DT, and Corner being deep. Thier discussion focused around getting a deep position early vs getting a shallow need position early. Say you need DE and Corner. If DE is shallow there's more value grabbing them early vs a deep position like CB.

It's the Bucky Brooks top 5 episode conversation starts at 16:26.

DE and WR are extremely shallow this year.. Theres practically no sure fire game breakers , besides Bradley  Chubb who will be long gone by the time we pick. We pretty much have to take a DE within the first 2 or 3 rounds if we want to take one.  WR class in particular looks very weak , not even Ridley is that impressive to me, he might be a 3rd/4th rounder in a draft with good WR depth.

It sucks but our primary needs aren't stacking up with draft depth this year . We need to get a DE and WR in the first 3 round in my opinion.

Pretty much what I think.

Wenn should draft Derwin James or Ronnie Harrison in the first and then go OL for example Wynn, Price, Daniels, Ragnow, O. Brown, McGlinchey or whoever is there.

Then go TE (Hurst, Andrews, Fordert, Fumagalli) and RB (Michel, Freeman, Chubb etc).

there are some really good WR in this draft...I would not call this class weak at all...and multiple game breaker rb's...we need a LT...which we could get along with your DE and WR in first 3 rds...this is shaping to be a good draft for us...plenty of options at several areas of need...

They talked about WR being a bunch class that there's a bunch of them all with similar 2-3rd round grades but no real order making it a difficult position to get

It seems to me that WR is not there early, but there are a bunch of middle and late rounders who will compete for slot and #3 wr jobs...just my perception.   I agree on DE--terrible draft---I see so many that could bust.  Peppers really needs to sign a 1-year deal...I am guessing that we grab a WR in free agency and draft one late if at all...  If we let Norwell and Star go, if we cut Ryan, CJ, and Stew (unless mama Hurney is around to protected the children he drafted in his glory days)--we can fill a lot of holes.

ONE SCENARIO:

  • Draft is strong at DT--let Star go, draft a DT on day 1 or 2.
  • Moton projected better to G than RT in the draft--Moton becomes the new LG as you let Norwell go :crying:.. If you keep Norwell at $11m per year, you have too much invested at G and Moton does not have a job.
  • Ryan Kalil out, Larsen in at C, backed by recently re-signed Van Roten.  This is not ideal, but neither is 33-year old Kalil's neck or his salary.  We save $7m.
  • Stewart (and his 3.2 yards per carry) out.  Draft deep at RB.  saves almost $4m.
  • Move Worley to FS to give Coleman some depth for a season. Draft a CB early.  Bradberry would be better vs. the #2 WR.

I am guessing that gives us about $32m to spend in free agency.

  • Peppers ($3m)
  • Good WR ($10-11m) Since the draft is weak, grab one in free agency.
  • TE in free agency ($5m)
  • SS in free agency ($6m)
  • K in free agency ($3-4m)
  • QB in free agency ($3m)

Draft: DE, CB, DT, RB, LOT, OG, OC, WR

Concerns: Offensive line--can Moton and Larsen get the job done?

    • I agree.  I really don't like taking the same prospect archetype over and over.
