A TE a competent GM might target in FA this offseason

Fum Reallly dropped off this year and do not want.

Hurst, honestly dont know to much about other than he is older than most of the prospects coming out

Goedert scares me a little because he's a small school prospect

Andrews is nice, but unless we reach and grab him in the 1st we wont get him.

2 guys I like and keeping a eye on leading inti the combine and leading up to draft.

Depending how our offense looks.  If we go to 2 TEs sets where 2 TE heavily involved in the passing game like Chudd

Look for Gesicki- Tall long athletic prospect.  Claims he is going to run in the 4.5s at the combine so that will be big.  Former basketball player.  A guy who will be around in the 3rd

If we run a scheme where the TE2 is a primary blocker role almost like a H-Back in some roles.

Dalton Schultz- damn good blocker who was a big key blocker for CMC and Love at Stanford.  Despite not filling the stat sheet due to offensive scheme. Stanford staff raves about his route running and hands.  Not a bad athlete either.  Walterfootball is starting to catch on saying scouts are saying he is do it all Y type TE similar to Witten

Fumgali production dropped off due to no other offensive threats surrounding him as defenses where able to key on him BTW still able to put up good numbers.

The point of running 2 TE set is having a TE that can do both so defense can’t key on plays. The ones I mentioned are prime canidates for that role as they have skill set to grow into Gronk esque role of a receiver & blocker.

Just like the RBs panthers use their TEs for receiving and blocking not either or.

Ex. Next time Cam can go to Olsen for the pass as defense thinks he is staying in to block or even send both out.

nice option here:

Dion Sims - TE - Bears

The Chicago Tribune's Brad Biggs believes it's "likely" the Bears release TE Dion Sims prior to March 16, when $4 million of Sims' contract becomes guaranteed.

Sims received a "three-year, $18 million" deal from the Bears last offseason that included $10 million guaranteed. He already received $6 million of that in 2017 when Sims caught just 15 balls for 180 yards and one touchdown. Sims is paid too much, even though he's one of the best end-of-the-line pass blockers at his position. He was targeted one or zero times in seven games.

Will he come in for vet minimum?

Fum's production didnt fall off due to surrounding weapons.  It fell because his play.  Watched him when I could and watched him in person at the orange bowl.  It was pretty painful to watch.  He REALLY struggled to create separation and wasnt close to the same player.

Thus the reason you see most scouts now have him as a round 4-5 guy vs the round 2-3 they had him projected going into the season.  That stock drop wasnt due to his teammates, it was due to his play.

You are correct that we want guys that can both block and catch.

But the way the offense is schemed is a big factor.

Back to the Chud vs Shula

Chud- both TEs lined up standing up and equally envolved in the pass catching game.  In that offense a Gesecki would be best.  A absolute stud reciever, willing blocker but not top notch (which is fine consider he's not hands indirt primary blocker)

Shula- TE1 lined upright running routes.  TE2 lined with hands in the dirt either beside the OT like in your highlight you posted.  Or in the Back field as a H-Back. Part of the reason you saw a reduced role of the FB.  Either shotgun single back or TE2 lined up at H-Back.  You saw this SD when Rivera was there.  You always heard Gates because he was the 1 running routes making the catches while the TE2, who they split time running FB and TE2 sets, was a primary blocker who no one knew.  In a Shula style offense a Schultz would be best, a hands in dirt stud blocker.  But has the abilities to be a factor in the passing game when needed

Not saying the TE2 in a shula offense never catches.  Just way way less frequent.  Mostly on a goal line package like the one you highlighted
