You are acting like you know...even the timing didn't turn out to be as bad as first thought...words are illustrations yours were just bad ones on this pt...it happens...no biggie...

What more do you need than this:  He traded the team's #1 WR for future draft picks during a playoff run .  (not that I liked KB, but there was nothing much behind him).  Who does that? 

 

You made the  KB trade proof of your argument...then admitted you didnt know if it was good or bad yet...

You don't play two Wrs with the same route tree, it was stupid. Didn't want to bench him as that would have been worse for the team as it would've been less likely to get something of value for him after the season.

 according to this logic (which is solid logic and I agree 100%) the trade was needed but the timing was not perfect.  This move should have been made in the off season OR if we tanked the season.  This ain't Madden. There is a message you send the team.  We were in a playoff run.

I never liked KB and Funchess and I agree 100% about the route trees, etc.  Here is my theory, and I think there is something to it.  Can't prove it, but nothing anyone says here can be, fwiw.

  • RR did not like KB.  He was not a hard worker, he made mental mistakes, etc.  The only  evidence I have of this is watching OTAs and there was a game last year when he was benched--words were exchanged. 
  • Marty negotiated a contract extension for RR.  He knew the contract would give RR some input into the new GM search.
  • The trade was to show loyalty to RR--that he would get rid of his headache. 
  • The timing of the trade was due to his status as interim GM.  He wanted to earn RR's trust, address a problem (as you mention so well), and show people he could deal.
  • Who knew all this, who knew about the RR/Benji friction?  Brandon Beane, a young, aggressive GM who knows this organization better than MH.  Coincidence? 
  • So Marty traded away his #1 WR to a team making a playoff run that needed one in mid season when the Panthers were weak at WR.  We simply did not have an answer to the loss.  The trade is understandable, but the timing is very suspect. 

I could make similar cases of MH trying to save his job when it was on the line, by trading away first rounders like they were nothing--something he had never done until his butt was on the line.  The result of some of his "mortgage the future" moves?  Jeff Otah, Everette Brown, Frank Alexander, Armanti Edwards...."

The timing, under any circumstance, is not ideal in mid-season.  It is called Chemistry--something you probably failed many times.
