Panthers put interim GM Marty Hurney on paid leave after ex-wife’s allegations

Guys and Gals...I hate to say this but in the past  we've taken a great deal of pleasure mocking other franchises as dumpster fires. I hate to admit it...but it looks like we are the dumpster fire, we are the organization owned and run by clowns, we are the laughing stock of the league. Fug' em all!

What happens if he's fired though?

Who would be calling the shots this off-season? Who would make the draft day decisions and finding players in free agency? I can't imagine this won't hurt the Panthers this year if he's fired. It might also mean that the front office will pick Hurney's replacement too soon, meaning picking through the scraps that other teams have left.

I was hoping the Panthers would go into this year having an inordinate amount of time to vet the next general manager. Maybe they would have certainly found the right person for the job this time around. Though now it might mean they'll instead have to choose a candidate by default.

They just interviewed three other highly qualified candidates. All they have to do is pick one of them.

Just now, Mr. Scot said:

I wouldn't guarantee that.

It's not like Marty had the greatest resume' to begin with, and prospective new owners might not appreciate the team hiring a GM with a harassment charge in the news after the previous owner was booted for similar issues.  Even if he's not charged, the story is out there in the public consciousness.

I think this could easily be more like a Rick Smith type situation where Marty takes a long paid vacation and the team moves on without him.

agree

That story sounds like the ranting of a lunatic. She wasn't even given a temporary and judges almost always give a temporary to women in these cases. Judge didn't believe her one bit, neither will the NFL or team. This will be quick I'd imagine and I'm pretty sure the teams GM search is actually on hold now as for them hiring someone.

Additionally as soon as she didn't get the 10 day temporary, she dropped the charges and the case.

Like him or not as a GM, Hurney has always acted with class in and out of this organization. Let’s be careful before we ruin the man’s reputation, on what already look like some pretty shakey allegations. I don’t want him as GM either, but I don’t want to see the guy’s life ruined by a money grubbing ex. He deserves the benefit of the doubt until the claims against him are substantiated.

I have to remember who I'm talking to here... If you're happy going back to hurney, says a lot about your football knowledge.

Hurney traded KB away when we really could have used a WR in the playoffs. And the two kicker fiasco.

For the love of god, can we please drop the two kicker thing? It was not a fiasco, there was no one better to put on the roster who would have been active. It literally affected nothing. It just gave them a chance to be completely sure about which kicker they wanted to keep.
