NC State's David Amerson

I am not promoting or discounting this guy.  Just noticed that Oakland let him go.

Big CB 6'1"

He is the kind of DB we like.   Anyone have opinions on this guy.  Wouldn't be a bad signing for competition if his foot has healed.

He's not much better then worley

I agree with this.  He got roasted in New York.. Pretty quiet in the bay.  I don't know if he's (much of) an improvement.  But, sometimes the right scenery helps a player.. Is he originally from NC?

Put it in the other thread, and while he had a few nice weeks (he's a ballhawk), that also gets him in trouble.

I had a class with him, and dude just doesn't care about anything. Never brought a pen, never paid attention, listened to music most of the time.  He was always a nice guy, but one of the few football players we had that I didn't really care for.

That's sad.  So many with god given talents that are afforded a free education and they waste it away.

It's not sad. He was essentially majoring in football. He pocketed $12.7M in the past two years alone. Very few of his classmates will make that during their entire lifetimes.

Yeah and of course he is set for life.  I would bet in 5 yrs after he leaves football he'll be the lead burger flipper at your favorite fast food restaurant.

How many athletes do the right thing with their money.  Especially the ones that don't have long careers.

The majority of the ones who sit in class and do nothing usually end up not very well off.

  • 2 weeks later...

This is interesting because character and work ethic matter.  Some get by on their talent alone and get their butt kissed on every level until they fail.  They think they are wonderful and do not see the need to work hard.

NC State's TA McLendon is a great example.  I coached him at Albemarle HS and he was a turd.  He broke team rules, cut classes, etc. and was never disciplined.  I talked to a coach from Tennessee at a track meet about TA, who said, "He needs a babysitter.  We do not babysit."

His JR year, he never attended classes.  He was NOT drafted,, signed a contract with Atlanta.  They gave him a $15k signing bonus.  He took a bunch of his local buddies with him to Atlanta's OTAs and partied all night.  He would show up for film sessions late and would fall asleep.  (This info from a person who was best friends with an assistant coach).

So what we see on the surface--3 hours each Sunday for 16 weeks--is nothing when you consider the big picture.  If State was willing to babysit players that nobody else wanted, then maybe that is why they sucked with such incredible talent there (TA, Rivers, etc)
