How important is upgrading the backup QB position?

There have been plenty of QBs who look good for an extremely short period of time and can't sustain it. Kaepernick's last year with Harbaugh he was terrible, and his next two years with Tomsula and Kelly were even worse. He looked decent for a little over a season (end of 2012 and 2013) but since then has been straight up terrible. And yes there are plenty of terrible QBs in the league. The difference between them is they aren't distractions like Kaepernick is. You absolutely don't want your backup QB being a distraction. And regardless DA is better than him and would cost less so that aside, it would still be stupid.

DA isn't better than anyone, and furthermore would likely cost more than Kap at this point.

Harbaugh did exactly what you're supposed to do with your QB, which is to set them up to success and develop plays to their strengths.

You guys believe what you want,  but I don't give up on extraordinary  talent because of regression that may be directly tied to bad management, questionable play calling and questionable personnel.  And ironically,  some have called Cam bad and more,  but you seem to understand his circumstances. Give Kap that same grace.

Wasn't Kaepernick benched for Gabbert before the he started protesting.  Blaine friggin Gabbert.   And now, with Garappolo, the 9ers have higher superbowl odds than us.

Id agree and say important and that we've been very lucky to have Cam play in the games he's played in.

Derek Anderson might be fun to have around on the practice field but he's not advancing or driving the teams future forward.

Id rather Gilbert be back there than paying any other vet money.

Carolina plays the draft like a video game anyway, we take chances on a guy who plays at San Jose who use to be the kicker for Wisconsin West Community college who used to be QB at LA Tech.

Then we let them go to another team.
