Eagles Just Showed That Playcalling and Offensive Personnel Can Win a Super Bowl

Yea there was a huge defensive play they had near the end but most of that game was on the fact that the Eagles scored well enough to beat the Patriots while their defense was getting beat like a drum for alot of the game.

Eagles totally transformed their team in a fairly short amount of time after they had the fiasco with Chip Kelley . They got better coaching staff, and very key was last offseason where they picked up two very good WRs in Alshon Jeffrey and Torrey Smith. They changed the role of Nelson Agahlor to the slot which better suited his skills. And they traded for Jay Ajayi and got Legarret Blount in the offseason. Its just continuing to prove that change is nessasary to win the big one.

Alot of people here are a liltle confused/worried about the future considering are getting a new owner, new OC, and great players are declaring its their last season in 2018 (Kalil, Davis) while our other franchise players are aging quickly (Greg will be 33, Stew will be 31, Cam will be 29 , and Luke will be 27) .

I think I feel fairly positive now, but its really up to how either Hurney/new GM does the offseason and draft. But I know things can chance very quickly , either by draft (ex. Saints), or free agency/coaching changes (ex. Eagles, Rams) .  Here's to hoping we can get a player like Mike Wallace and another good WR.  And either get a good young power back. Keep in mind we can also trade for a player too.

I'm feeling pretty confident about Norv Turner , I think we immediately see divdens getting paid by finally having a competent OC. I think having Byrd and Samuel healthy and getting someone like Wallace in here will be huge, and also Cam and CMC having an entire complete offseason as well . I think Turner is going to really know how to use CMC well and the dude will explode in his 2nd year, he'll get more outside runs and be featured heavily in the passing game.

. I think the draft will be mostly used for defense to help us on the line and the secondary but I could be wrong.

Overall I think we are due for a SB win and we're closer than alot of people think.  All it takes is one good offseason and a few good pieces added. Stay positive ladies and gentlemen..

The whole game also showed ground and pound is as archaic as it gets in today’s NFL.

Never did the run establish play-action. Everyone literally went straight to play-action passes and it worked because that’s how football actually works.

Today’s league is a passing league. And we’re about to fall behind because Rivera wants us to be 1st in time of possession instead of 2nd.

Free Agent WRs of Note

  • Mike Wallace
  • Sammy Watkins
  • Allen Robinson
  • Donte Moncrief
  • Marquise Lee
  • Michael Floyd
  • (Also could trade for a dude like Josh Gordon or Martvis Bryant )
  • (Landry isnt worth mentioning with his terrible salary # and he's not a deep threat by any means)

RBs :

  • Legarret Blount
  • Isaiah Crowell
  • Jamaal Charles
  • Alfred Morris
  • (pretty slim pickings RB wise, probably would have to draft one)

CBs:

  • Prince Amukamara
  • Morris Claybourne
  • Deangelo Hall
  • Malcom Butler (potentially a huge piece, he feels pretty bitter most likely after that pats sat him in the SB loss)

I remember some pretty hefty runs on both sides. You can’t have one without the other.

What? That could maybe work for one game at most...but no one is gonna bite on the play-action if a team notoriously doesn’t actually run the ball. That’s the kind of thing that would easily show up in the film room.

It worked cause neither team was getting any pass rush for about 90% of the game.

If Philly is supposed to epitomize why ground and pound is so archaic then why did they sign Blount and trade for Ajayi? Those two offer nothing in the passing game...they’re pure runners.

No offense should be one-dimensional...good offenses need balance. It’s no coincidence that the Saints became so dangerous this year with a much improved run game.

Two crucial game changing plays where Philadelphia went for it on fourth down.

Just before the end of the first half:

0:38 4th and 1 at NE 1, Trey Burton pass to the right to Nick Foles for 1 yard for a TOUCHDOWN.  This was a drive that began with only two minutes remaining in the first half and allowed Philly to extend their lead to ten points going into the locker room.

And with 5:39 left in the game:

4thand 1 at Phi 45, Nick Foles pass to the left to Zach Ertz for 2 yards to the Phi 47. Tackled by Duron Harmon.  Ultimately the drive resulted in a TD that allowed Philly to take the lead for good.

I really can't see Coach Rivera going for it on 4th down during either occasion.

Ron would have likely settled for 3 points just before the half. That's assuming Rivera made any serious effort to score at all.  Remember, when the drive started, there were only 2 minutes remaining prior to halftime.

In the fourth quarter, Ron likely would have elected to punt on fourth down, hoping for a defensive stop and one more chance to score before the game's conclusion.

Had Pederson not gone for it on either of those two occasions, chances are the Eagles would have likely lost this contest.  To his credit he kept the pedal to the metal for a full 60 minutes.

Pedal to the metal, not something our current HC, Ron Rivera, is known for doing.

Lol the Eagles had 164 yards on the ground. Were you watching the bowl? they were running all over the Pats in the 1st half then New England cranked it up a notch.

And the Eagles revamped a lot of areas last offseason. They were never expected to be that good in the secondary.

Did you not notice they passed a whole ton before they actually started running? They went straight to play-action when the game started (and no, it’s not an RPO, as the linemen were guarding for a pass, not a run) and it worked.

They passed to set up the run game if anything. 44 passes to 27 rushes.

One thing about ground and pound, Brady would be on the sideline

the Eagles did a lot of surgical running,  not on first down, and it paid off.  When they abandoned that approach, NE took the lead

Ask any NFL player and they will tell you the same thing
