I'm still mad we drafted before them and our class just sucked. It's funny we didn't get lattimore because of injury concerns but all but one of our guys was injured.

Very very far from being determined that our class sucked. McC is definitely a beast and Samuel has tons of potential that he was starting to show before being hurt. Moton, Hall and Elder all have potential as well after essentially redshirting a year. And Armah looks like our FB of the future without a doubt. I don't think the class looks all that bad overall, especially if Samuel turns into a threat, Hall can enter the rotation, and Moton can be at least decent starter at G or T, all of which are very possible. Elder could be our nickel of the future as well.

It really was a truly amazing draft. Not only the two ROTY winners in Lattimore and Kamara, but also really amazing players in Ramcyzk and Williams (despite his choke during the Minneapolis Miracle). They'll go back to sucking soon enough though when they have no QB and more sucky drafts. Really was mainly luck when comparing it to their other drafts the past 5 years or so.

You hit sometimes. Just like the Panthers in 2001.

Our class sucked this season. Not in the future. They were all hurt or underperformed. It suuuuuucked. Most teams rookies helped thier team. Ours didn't even have the chance. Which is why I'm so pissed we passed on lattimore bc of injury concerns.

I remember how everyone kept saying Saints wouldn't be a problem for a long time because they were gonna be in cap hell pretty soon and it never happened.

Goes to show you how thats just a bull poo excuse for not be able to field a good team.

In some respects that's true. If you draft well, then you can get away with being right up against the cap. You can probably feel a whole lot freer with the purse strings and more resolute when you feel that a few higher priced free agents might get you over the hump. Drafting well may not only give you great confidence in free agency,  but it may make you feel a little bit more free during any given draft also because you know that you always have the next round or even the next draft to make the puzzle more complete.

That's why I was so disillusioned with Gettleman and question his philosophy of team building.  I didn't clearly see the improvement from year to year,  and the puzzle never became more complete because he seemed to always seemed to think too far down the road and make luxury picks that weren't necessarily expected to make an immediate impact to make the puzzle more complete---improve the team now and/or get us over that next hump. I just don't think that he picked the right players, even though there were quality players that filled our immediate needs. It was super frustrating because we were so close,  yet he seemed to take the team backwards at worst or keep the status quo at best the way that he drafted.  And it was damned frustrating.  But what made it even more frustrating for me is that he always puffed out his chest as being the premier scout in the league---the man with the plan.  For someone who knew scouting,  he sure missed out on some great players who would have fit us like a glove.

Let's say he did know his stuff about scouting,  his team building left a lot to be desired. Most people don't realize that the two are different, but they are.  Scouting is not team building. Scouting is a part of team building.  People laughed at Mickey Loomis, but he schooled Gettleman. He made moves that we should have made. He had a better understanding of his team and what it took to move his team forward than Gettleman did with his own. That's just the fact of the matter. He had a longer gap to close, and he did it. They beat our asses three times in the same fricking year. No excuse!

Honestly,  just thinking about it (again) pisses me off.  If you're that close and such a fuging blowhard, then you have to do better.  You can't be schooled by Loomis.

Couldnt agree more. Absolutely no reason we should have lost to the saints 3 times in one season. Gave up over 30 points every game to top it off largely do to a trash secondary and no receivers.

No reason in the world that we shouldn't have had Lattimore.  And being totally honest,  All three were on my radar as they filled needs at the time. But, you know,  the GOAT had other things in mind.  SMDH

I liked Lattimore more than McC too but Lattimore had and still does have legit injury concerns. That’s enough risk to not use a top 10 pick on a player. There was no reason we shouldn’t have had Barnett though.

It did happen... they went 3 years without being above .500 at any point during those 3 years, due to their cap situation. They got out of it over time and with an amazing draft last year. Doesn’t mean it never happened.

So much this. Plus, Brees has an 18M dead cap hit that will have to be accounted for in his new contract. All this to have the same record as us in their one successful year. Definitely the blueprint I hope our new GM follows.
