Better to be nominated and not win than to never be nominated.  There are thousands of players in the NFL.  To be a finalist, let alone even nominated, is an amazing accomplishment.

exactly. There are players all over the league giving back to theirs and their adopted communities.

The award is for excellence on the field and off.  He didn't complete half of the award requirements this season.
