Ginn: 3 years, $11M with $3M guaranteed

Shepard: 3 years, $10M with $2.1M guaranteed.

Both contracts were written where the guy could be cut after the first or second year with relatively little cap damage. We'll be cutting Shepard for sure. The Saints will be keeping Ginn for sure.

We absolutely should've given Ginn the contract the Saints gave him and stayed far the he'll away from Shepard, but as always hindsight is 20/20.

I agree, I would be surprised  if we keep Shepherd for 3 years which is why I was comparing  only the 2017 numbers rather than total contract.    I understand not signing a 3 year contract for an older receiver with butter for hands.  But Ginn kicked butt this year and made us pay for it.  You are right hindsight is 20/20.  Here's to hoping next year is different.

While I agree that we should have kept Ginn, you can't really compare the contract he signed with NO with the one Shepard signed with us.    

Shepard signed here more for ST than WR.  He was meant to be a prominent player on ST, but nothing more than a supporting WR.  I don't think they planned on him being anything more than a #4 or 5 receiver here (KB, Funch, & Samuel were clearly ahead of him...not to mention CMC's role in the passing game).  However, injuries forced him into a more prominent role than they wanted.  So, the problem isn't Ginn vs. Shepard, it's that Shepard was forced into a role he wasn't suited for and nobody really wanted for him.

I wonder how much the rotation hurts DL numbers. Some of the values seem reasonable (Shepard LOL) and some seem way off.

Norwell is the more consistent player, Trai has the higher upside, and is younger.

Either would have been a good signing, and even though I believe in a solid O Line, I'm not sure that we can spend that kind of coin on the G's, when we have a QB on his BIG contract....amongst other players.

You can't really be better than Norwell was this year... He's the exact prototype of a player you want around for 10+ years with your team no matter what. He's got everything you want from a player. We already made the moves so it doesn't matter now unless we actually decide to pay both guards, and who knew before the year Norwell would've been that damn good, but signing Trai instead of Norwell was definitely a mistake.
