Can't help get the feeling this is all a tease and Hurney is it.   Worst part is, we let the big one get away.  Someone else will hire him and we get stuck with the same lousy BS that we have endured for the most part of the last 20  years.

The thing is, what difference does it make?

I think most assumed all along that Hurney was going to run FA and the draft regardless since he is under contract until June and there wouldn't be time to instill a new GM before the draft once a new owner is determined.  And any new owner can and will be able to easily buy out Hurney's contract if he wants someone else.  So, really, all this angst people have about Hurney getting the job is completely pointless and unnecessary.  This really isn't a big deal in any way.

Because at this point, it's unnecessary.

People were resigned to another year of Hurney because no one believed there'd be any interviews this year.  Then apparently the Fritz Pollard alliance gets pissed and boom, we have a candidate pool of all African Americans...and Hurney.

But what's really bothersome is that the candidate list outside of Hurney has some serious quality options, especially Jimmy Raye.  Who wants to suffer through another year of Marty Hurney when you could have someone who's actually capable of doing a good job?

It definitely makes a difference.

I would not be mad. Seems like a great candidate. Building through the draft requires spotting talent though. That's not always easy but it is easier to manage the cap that way. But let's be realistic, half the huddle will complain no matter who it is. :)

I really don’t know who I want us to get, my chief complaint with Hurney was his cap management. He really wasn’t bad otherwise.

I will say the amount of people on here that dislike Rivera astounds me. Truely the best coach we’ve ever had and I swear half the huddle wants him fired.

do they not fuging know how bad we had it before he got here???

I don't personally want him fired, not yet anyway.  He just needs a competent GM holding him accountable.  Left to his own devices he will most likely fail here in the end.

My biggest criticism of Rivera has been his loyalty to subpar employees, so this offseason did a lot to improve his stature for me.

There are still things he needs to work on, but dumping Shula was a biiiiig step in the right direction.

I'm willing to give him a reboot.

Unnecessary...and irrelevant. It really makes no difference. A new owner will be in place by summer, so nothing is going to change from what would happen if no interviews were taking place.  And a new owner will almost certainly want to pick his own guy, so whoever gets the job will quite possibly have a short tenure

And I’ll be honest, none of the candidates being talked about impress me very much. Raye’s probably the best of the lot, but even he doesn’t do much for me.  And the Tennessee guy so many have the hots for doesn’t have enough experience, IMO. So I really don’t see any reason for all the angst taking place around here.

I’ll just be patient and see how things play out.

Raye is a guy I took notice of the last time we had a GM search. I'd absolutely be in favor of hiring him.

This. We all know it's highly likely that this is all a dog and pony show and that Hurney will get a new contract as our GM. The thing is that if new ownership doesn't want him, they'll rip that contract up, write him a check, and conduct their own GM search. So, at the end of the day none of this really matters. All it's going to do is give Hurney leverage to get a separation payout which will amount to the spare change in the couch for an ownership group with the funds to purchase an NFL franchise.

Here in a few months, we'll be in the same situation either way.

*Well, except for the candidates not impressing me part. I honestly haven't done any looking into them at all because I'm just assuming Hurney is getting the job.

he is no Marty Hurney.

Hurney would have said,  "Well, you gotta lock down your core by giving them ridiculous contracts that extend into their early 50s.

FIRST ROUND: You then draft safe in the first round--a RB or LB for the most part, but don't forget we need to use those first rounders to save my job by trading next year's pick for this year's bust.  Otah, Ev. brown?--we're dealin!

SECOND ROUND: in the second, you turn your draft board into  a dart board and see who you hit. It ain't rocket science. Who can forget names like Jimmy Clausen, Sherrod Martin, Everette Brown, Bruce Nelson, Dwayne Jarrett, Eric Shelton, Amini Silatolu and Keary Colbert?  Everyone?

THIRD ROUND:   After that, I think it is the third round, where you draft players like Armanti Edwards and convert hm to a different position he has never played. Or you take values like Atyyia Ellison,  Rashad Butler, James Anderson, Corvey Irvin, Terrell McClain, Sione Fua.  I own the third, Chumps!

Any questions?  (Drop mic)."

Seriously, this is how much Hurney sucks.

Otah was a bulldozer before he got hurt.  He was a beast. An injury ended his career.

Rashad Butler wasn't exactly trash

He'd probably be ok, but I just get the feeling that he won't be one of those elite GM's.  Can't really give a reason as it's just a feeling.
