This would be a none issue if we either A) never drafted Butler or B) never extended Short. Now we have two guys who play the same position. One who is a first round pick that will forever be coming from the bench.

Gettleman was such an overrated mother fuger on this board. Dude made some shitastic moves during his tenure.

Bro this narrative just doesn't work.  If we let them both walk and get pretty much nothing in FA, we would have a good amount of cap room, but an lesser roster, when we are trying to get a better roster.

I.E... we won't get two comp picks for them because we will sign peeps in FA (most notably a WR or two, along with a Safety (or two)

Cuts don't count toward comp picks and could satisfy that narrative.  Too many dominoes still to fall around the league to tell at this point but the front office will certainly have comp picks in the back of there minds as Norwell will net a 3rd and Star at least a 4th.

If Starr was that great as a NT, why is he unsigned? Why did they only pick up the 5th year option and sign KK?

Salary cap, and Short plays at a position with a more obvious impact.

Star is going to make good money this offseason. That's pretty much universally acknowledged. It won't be from us, but it's also commonly understood that if we could fit him under the cap, we would.
