Eric Washington does not believe Vernon Butler can replace Star

I believe without a doubt we will lose Star to free agency, but I don’t think anyone with any sense would tell an impending FA we want to keep that he is easily replaced.

Even if they did, it wouldn't be true.

Star is better than a lot of people give him credit for.

And I'm fine with letting them walk, we need those comp picks. Our roster has gotten old in the last few seasons.

Bro this narrative just doesn't work.  If we let them both walk and get pretty much nothing in FA, we would have a good amount of cap room, but an lesser roster, when we are trying to get a better roster.

I.E... we won't get two comp picks for them because we will sign peeps in FA (most notably a WR or two, along with a Safety (or two)

Didn’t say they were, but 6 solo tackles? What next he draws a double team every snap?

Star's biggest duties are to clog running lanes, to help collapse the pocket so the quarterback can't step up, and to occupy blockers so they can't get to Luke Kuechly.

If you look back at Ray Lewis in Baltimore, he became less effective when he didn't have huge, space eating tackles in front of him.  He lobbied the team to get someone big in front of him again and they drafted Haloti Ngata.  Lewis went back to being dominant and the Ravens were back in the Super Bowl within a few years.

If Butler or someone else isn't able to effectively replace Lotulelei, Kuechly's performance is likely to suffer.

I understand all of what you just said, does  he? You expect a starter to make at least one play a game, I don’t recall Starr making one.... all year.

Not at nose tackle, honestly.  They're way more likely to play a part in someone else making a big play.

I'll put it this way: There's a reason why another team is likely gonna pay him more than we can afford.

Vernon Butler really impressed me near the end of the season. He started getting a bit more snaps from 1-tech and seriously looked good.

I still think Butler’s more fit to be a UT (Kawann’s role) more-so than Star’s, but even then I think he could replace Star.

I’d just rather us keep Norwell first and foremost.

Huh?

I could point to a myriad of instances where Star literally mauls down two 300+ lb linemen to stuff the backfield.

He definitely had an impact.

If Starr was that great as a NT, why is he unsigned? Why did they only pick up the 5th year option and sign KK?
