And as far as our secondary is concerned, sure, they disappointed, but I can’t help but feel Wilks exacerbated the issue by making them do the impossible literally all last year, imo.

Not saying Wilks scheme is terrible. It’s actually a very good scheme with the right pieces. However, we didn’t have the stout secondary required for Wilks.

Washington understands wilks tried forcing on a scheme that just wasn’t the best for Carolina’s personnel, and I’m glad he’s looking to change that.

going to be real interesting next year. Wilks has a defense that would work stupid good with his scheme (geez the things he could do with Budda Baker is already amazing in it of itself) and Washington gets to unlock Carolina’s true potential.

Yeah its the perfect scheme if you have Ramsay and Talib as your CBs.

It always baffled me that we employ one of the greatest cover linebackers in the game today, perhaps ever, in Kuechly . . . and we blitz him?  Seriously?  The guy has more INT's on his resume than sacks!  Let him play to his strengths, because he's pretty (*&$ing good!

I feel like we biltzed way to much last season.  Worked well in some situations, but against players like Brees who like to get rid of the ball quickly, it left our secondary out to dry.  We either need better DBs or be more creative in how we rush the QB

curious if we played man or zone mostly against the saints.

That’s not how football works.

Secondary sucks due to lack of speed at the Safety positon.

The NFCS south is stacked with guys running 4.5 or sub & Panthers have an aging Adams trying to cover in space :eyeroll:.

Need a Malk Hooker type of FS since Coleman & Adams skill set are better utilized playing near LOS.

Playing zone all game is not gonna get us anywhere either and the front 4 is not good enough to just apply pressure with them alone all game so we better knock this off season out the park if you want to try somethin new cuz we dont have the personnel to move away from that traditional zone scheme.

Yeah, I’m hoping Washington is our Goldilocks DC. He’s seen McD and Wilks. He’ll strike the right balance between aggressive blitzing and sitting back more to react.

like others have said, I think a huge key is blitzing with the correct players. TD is too old to reliably blitz. Shaq needs work on it. Luke isn’t that good at it and he’s much more useful in coverage anyway. I think on top of looking for a regular DE, we need to find a safety or nickel corner who can get to the QB on blitzes reliably. Too many times last year our guys just ran at a wall and were worthless. We need a guy who can do it legit.

Not only did Wilks called too many blitz but the blitzes were too predictable. Prior to the snap, we would have 6-8 guys lined up on the line of scrimmage preparing to blitz and you can tell who they were. Smart QBs and o-lines can adjust their protection to the blitz if they know where they are coming from. Pretty much, Wilks never disguised his blitzes in order to confuse the opponent.
