You hyping up 7-8-1 as a good thing is what's truly laughable here. If results are so important than surely you can admit never having consecutive winning seasons is unacceptable and not the sign of competent management.

Funny you don't seem to wanna talk about that 15-1 season, though.  You know, the best season in team history?  Part of the most successful run in team history?  Followed up by the dumbass in charge firing the guy who helmed that run and rehiring the guy who could only manager three decent seasons out of eleven years?  You remember, right?  You've been here since 2001, after all.

in 2006 and 2007 he drafted Deangelo Williams, John Beason, Charles Johnson, Ryan Kalil and James Anderson. Hell pretty much every GM in the NFL wishes they'd come out of two drafts with that much talent. Maybe your thinking of 2009 and Brown debacle.....

That's kind alike highlight reel scouting.  In 06 and 07 we also spent high picks on guys like Dwayne Jarrett, Richard Marshall and Rashad Butler.

But if you'll recall, I said I was looking at prior drafts from 2002 forward.  Outside of the first round, those were nothing to write home about (i.e. typical Hurney) and included things like picking DeShaun Foster over Clinton Portis and using second rounders on guys like Bruce Nelson (who I'm pretty sure never played a down).  The 05 draft was particularly bad. Got Thomas Davis in the first but after that, yeesh.

The 2007 draft was probably Hurney's best, but if you look back at the drafts following that one (you'll see them in the link Lords of Pain posted above) it's ugly.

The same can be said about Shula. Would be one of the best OC’s in the league if we go by your logic.

Nice try.  Offensive deficiencies can be compensated for by defense (hence the Ravens first Super Bowl win).  Likewise, poor coaching can be helped out by having good personnel (like how the Panthers went from a losing season in 2012 to winning in 2013).

Richard Marshall was a solid player. Wouldn’t call that pick a failure.

Not really, and in fact I was at a practice in Marshall's second year where I heard the DB coach yelling at him for being lazy.

Yeah, yeah. Our high offensive rankings over the years have been because of our defense.

Rankings :)

I'd be willing to bet you probably don't actually know what our offensive rankings have been (outside of 2015, they're not as high as you think) but even so, rankings don't mean squat.

Ever single GM misses and misses a lot, hell Gettleman hit on KK, Star, Turner and umm..... Can't think of anyone else in 4 drafts. Think maybe Rivera is a better coach then Fox and a better coach then early Rivera and that just might have something to do with the teams realitive success over the last few years.... You know considering the realitive poor drafting and all.

Just look at 2014 and 2015 drafts, yeesh those are awful drafts.

Star and Short are a pretty big deal, and Klein was good before he left.  We're left with only Turner from 2014, but 15 gave us Thompson, Funchess, Williams and Mayo.  And come on man, you know it's too early to fully judge the last two drafts.

Good grief, dude. When did you turn into a spinmeister for Hurney?  Are you just trying to be positive about our current situation?

We were one of the most efficient offenses in 2013. Any true fan knows that.

Ah, so here we go.  yet another Steve Smith / Josh Norman fan, wanting to talk about something other than success on the field and then claiming someone who's zeroed in on results only isn't "objective".  Meanwhile, you're trying to argue that Marty Hurney is actually good at drafting, but you're "not an apologist".

Laughable.

Gettleman has another job now (and it didn't take long).  He's not coming back here, and I'd be fine with that if we got someone else who was competent. Unfortunately, we're stuck with Hurney (whom nobody else wanted) and our dips--t of an owner is looking to try and lock him in to the job long term.

That's reality.

Lol he just went back to his old organization, had zero interviews elsewhere for nearly two decades.
