Quarterbacks active in 2017 with a higher career passer rating than Cam

I fully realize traditional passing statistics simply do not apply to Cam. After all,  he has averaged 39 rushing yards per game in his career. Nonetheless,  I thought a list of qualifying QB's who rank above and below him in career NFL Passer Rating would be fun. Those ranking above him (in order):

Aaron Rodgers

Russell Wilson

Tom Brady

Drew Brees

Philip Rivers

Big Ben

Kirk Cousins

Matty Ice

Matt Schaub

Andy Dalton

Matt Stafford

Carson Palmer

Derek Carr

Alex Smith

Andrew Luck

Jameis Winston

Ryan Tannehill

Jay Cutler

Those ranking below him (interesting in its own right and in order):

Sam Bradford

Joe Flacco

Eli

Blake Bortles

Josh McCown

Ryan Fitzpatrick

Matt Cassell

Chad Henne

Mark Sanchez

Derek Anderson

These are the only active qualifiers.

Thoughts???

Give Cam some top notch receivers and that Career Passer Rating goes up.  I would like to see drop rates of all of these QBs.  I would be willing to bet Cam is near the top of WR drop rate.

Thoughts?

Passer rating is a bad metric.  With that said, the fact that Cam is where he is with such a consistently poor offensive supporting cast year in and year out tells me all I need to know.

Only Cam and Russell Wilson are asked to do everything for their teams and Wilson has significantly better receiving talent. Offensive line is a whole different story but I'd argue receiving talent has more of an impact on quarterback rating than offensive line.

Cam's a crazy hybrid QB that the league has never seen and there's really no one to compare him to.

He's more mobile than Steve Young, but a worse passer. He's less mobile than Vick or Cunningham, but a far better passer than them.

He's also a power running back and match up nightmare in the red zone.

I did some math, to see what his QB rating would be if we converted his running stats to passing stats:

His career QBR is 85.3 on it's own.

If we convert his running stats to passing stats (counting every rushing attempt as a completed pass because I don't really know how to convert rushing attempts to incompletions) then his career passer rating jumps up to 91.8.

That's a pretty significant jump. Not sure where he would fall then, but I bet it's higher than a few of the guys listed above.

Now of course my conversion isn't perfect, but that seems about right on point with his value as an offensive weapon, not just a QB, for our team.

His value can't really be determined by conventional stats crunching. You kind of have to throw out the book and start from scratch with Cam.

Passer rating is simply about completion percentage that’s it. A formula with a highly weighted variable that falls on more than just a QB is dumb. Passer rating should basically be offensive system rating. It’s like grading a pg for assists conversion, it’s just dumb.

If that was the case, wouldn't Sam Bradford be rated higher? He did set the NFL record for highest completion percentage.

Yea, idk if that is the best metric. It would be interesting to see how the list changes if you used different perameters. Example, what if it only included top 3 or top 5 years from all QBs to show who was best in their prime. What if we had one to show just the last 3 years to show who was better right now and possibly weed out some weaker seasons from rookie years.

Cam is an anomaly. His style and production don't really lend to a meaningful or easy comparison. Even his career stat trajectory is wacky - Two of his best years so far in Passing Yards, Rushing Yards, and Rushing TDs came in his first two years in the league. You'd thing that at least his passing yards would trend up. To make it even harder to compare him to others, he has suffered most of his career with bottom-half (at best)  Receivers, Line, and Coaching Staff.
