REPORT: Giants will go hard after Andrew Norwell

Let Norwell walk.  Move Moton to LG. This move not only saves money, but it upgrades Moton.  He is a better G than T, and is probably only a RT, where we have Daryl.  So you have a high draft pick that knows the system.  Remember, a third rounder is valuable in  this draft.

This is something that has crossed my mind quite a bit this offseason. Moton has the talent, intelligence, flexibility to play multiple positions and the build. I've wondered if he could step in and play LG because it's clear who our tackles are at least for the next couple of years.

I want Norwell more than Star because I think our vulnerabilities are at LT and RT, but Norwell-Kalil-Turner is as good as it gets around the league. But, I also think Moton has untapped potential to be a contributor somewhere on the line. The $10M we save on Norwell can be used to fill other areas in FA.

It could be a risk since we know what we have already in Norwell, but if Moton can play LG, then lets roll with it.

My only concern is how big our cap looks in 2019 if we get out from under the two Kalil brothers contracts at that point and the money we would have opened up next year. Do we suffer from a cap flexibility standpoint in '18 in order to keep Norwell and groom Moton to be the LT in 2019?

Either way, I let Star walk this year and use his money elsewhere..... Norwell is the tougher decision, IMO.  A 28-year old DT that has said he wants to see what else is out there on the market vs. a 26-year old who was given a shot as a UDFA here, and protects Cam. I think Norwell's departure hurts Matt Kalil, which in turn kills our OL synergy.

Long story, longer.... I love Moton's potential. He's cerebral, athletic, mean and versatile. He showed flashes when given the opportunity and could save us money if Norwell is looking for a payday.

It’s time to ignore that idiot. I’ve proven multiple times before that his facts are bull poo and that he’s always wrong and Igo and others have blown up his “insider” knowledge. I don’t believe his DG had 0 input on Norwell. He just lies. As if scouts don’t provide input on every player. As if Hurney had no scouts telling him anything about all his good picks. He just makes long posts and unfortunately too many people think long equals he knows poo and he doesn’t.

I’m never replying to that moron again. Waste of time.

CPK does not know football well does he.

I wouldnt hop on the moton to LG band wagon so quickly, go back  and look at some games this year and watch Norwell closely. They asked him to do a lot far as blocking and he was damn near flawless all season. Pulling, swing blocking, blocking on screens, assist pass blocking he was moving around everywhere and when he wasnt moving he stone walled anybody who tried to go threw him. He will get paid well for good reason and be worth it. Moton is a mountain and can brick wall pretty much anybody which is what i like about him i just dont know if has to feet to replace nowhere at LG because norwell  got out of on the run so much. Now this is all based off scheme lastbl year which will be different under Norv maybe but To be honest i wish there was some way to keep Norwell after watching him closely and put moton beside him at tackle.

I changed my mind. Now that I have read this entire thread, I have stepped back and looked at this in relation to the entire roster, the cap, the comp picks, and the position.  The draft does not have a lot of elite talent (picking at 24) but it has some solid middle rounds talent at WR, CB, OG, DT, RB, and TE.  That is where we have needs.

Let Norwell walk.  Move Moton to LG. This move not only saves money, but it upgrades Moton.  He is a better G than T, and is probably only a RT, where we have Daryl.  So you have a high draft pick that knows the system.  Remember, a third rounder is valuable in  this draft.

Let Star walk.  Move 330 lb. Butler to NT.  Draft a 3 tech-the draft has some really good DTs/3 Techs (Loaded).  Butler is a better NT than 3 Tech.

This move helps upgrade 2 roster players, get 2 draft picks, and the drop off at these positions is minimal.

Release or cut Stewart and a few other big contracts this year,

In free agency:  Since the 4-3 DE spot is rather weak, sign a free agent DE and a WR.

In the draft:  Draft as if we are filling 2019 needs, since this draft is not loaded with instant contributors.   Suggestion:

  • Round 1:  Cornerback.  Since we signed a DE and WR in free agency, draft a cover corner here.  Move Worley to SS and Bradberry to #2 CB.
  • Round 2:  Defensive Tackle. The DTs are solid in the draft.  I think we could upgrade the DT spot with a pick here.  (No Gettlemen comments, please)

I think this is some good stuff.

I would just add - I'd love to see us draft a C/G at least by the second.  As I said on another thread, maybe we can slide back a bit in the first and pick up a 4th in order to get Price.  He could take over for Ryan Kalil in 2019 or 2018 if necessary.  Larsen is a nice fill-in, but we're going to need someone a little more elite.  Ideally he could be an interior back-up and learn the ropes like Moton last year, but he needs to be ready to play.  And not some dude with "potential" like Silotolu.

I agree.. Let Star walk.. Offer Nor well 7 to 8 mil .. if he wants what Tra got or close to that (which he probably  will) let him walk.. It's easier to find guards and run stuffing DT.

I see some solid Centers in the draft, and I would take one at some point.  A backup C/G as a rookie, take the job as a senior.  Agree on Larsen.

I love Price- from Ohio Stata.  If he would fall to the second, he is ours.  I like Michigan's Cole--he can backup T as a rookie...

I think we could find a decent C in the third.  If we let Norwell go, we need a good C.

I like price, but he might not even fall to us in the 1st...especially with Buffalo now needing a center and having two picks just before us.
