Gettleman takes shot at McAdoo

You can do the "what if they had drafted this guy instead" game with every GM in the league, including Hurney (who has some pretty grievous examples on that front).

But if you wanna play "what if" here's two questions you can ask.

One: What if Rivera had listened to Gettleman and fired Shula last year rather than "sticking his neck out"?

Two: What if Rivera had followed Gettleman's advice back in 2013 and hired Pat Shurmur instead of Mike Shula?

Almost like saying one thing in one thread and saying something different in another.

I know a guy on here who has an unfortunate habit of that.

You really aren't so good at this "gotcha" thing.

It's reminiscent of this..

I wouldn't have paid Josh Norman 15 million, not in this system.

That said, yeah it would have been nice to have gotten something in return for him.  Whether we would have or not?  Unknown.  Teams hardly ever trade anything for Franchise tagged players anymore (too many have had it blow up in their faces).

Wouldn't have costed 15m for him to stay, he was willing to sign the tag and accept less money.  If i remember he was willing to take 13m a season because of how much he liked Wilks and JR and even told the Panthers this when be signed his new agent before the tag was rescinded.

Gettleman told him that the window for a deal with the Panthers had closed and to go else where when he talked to him before removing the tag.

He only offered to sign the tag AFTER it was removed.  Before he was just being a diva and a dumbass for letting his idiot cousin be his representative.  Josh is the reason he's not here.

Not true it was before the tag was removed and he offered to stay on a 1 year non tag deal that was around 10m for the season. It was then that the Panthers rescinded the tag and Gettleman told him that the window for him staying was closed.

No, that's not accurate at all.  He was offered around 11 mil a year contract but refused it because he wanted QB money.  He got tagged and then let his cousin do the negotiating.  You know the rest of the story, or maybe not.

i will respond as long as someone needs to be set straight about a thing or two.

first of all this “look a man in the eye and etc etc” is hollywood bullshit, and knowing the fuging rumors about smith that went beyond his play on the field, if he needs someone to spell it out for him why he is a detriment to the team then he’s probably living in his own world instead of the real world. here’s the atom of steve smith’s tenure. we drafted him, he was here, he played well for a while, he got a fat contract, he cashed his checks, and he got cut.

nobody owes him his jersey retired, or a one day contract, or to have mint street renamed to agent 89 blvd. end of story. he decided to go out as an orange county crybaby and i lost any respect i had for the guy at that point. also idk how you’re faulting anybody for not looking someone in the face and giving them bad news when they’re the type of person that tries to start unprovoked brawls with another grown man in front of their family, like he did with wiggins.

the other thing is with the draft and seriously like if i hear one more thing about how we should’ve taken this guy i had a good feeling about in this pick, round, year instead of the guy that the panthers took, i’m going to ddos the fug out of this site in perpetuity. none of you guys have access to the type of film they spend hours watching. the draft is closer to an absolute crapshoot than a science with a practice anyway, and if someone that you wanted us to draft pans out, and you think it makes you a good scout bc you rewatched the same 4 minutes of highlights, then go do something else with your time that’s actually productive like coaching youth football instead of proselytizing in child labor agony over what could have been if we just had players that gettleman didn’t draft.

I justified my position, plain and simple, and all your mental gymnastics about Hollywood and armchair GM-ing doesn't void my opinion in the slightest. My opinion is less about scouting and more about team building.  All the players mentioned (and the players Gettleman chose)  got good scouting reports of varying degrees, but what makes the difference between a normal GM,  good one and a great one is actually choosing the player who makes your puzzle most complete year after year.

Using more words doesn't instantly validate your argument and invalidate someone else's.

The go to defense for Gettleman right now consists of a group of posters just piling into a thread and posturing and condemning others for merely discussing his failures. You can't talk about DG if it's negative, but it's perfectly fine for the same posters to go full fangirl and fawn over his every word as the new Giants GM.

Frankly people like Scot and Frash are just white noise. They followed the wave of Hurney's moves when things were going good with positivity just like anyone else here. But suddenly now he's the worst GM in history and they just won't stand for any negative talk about Gettleman under any circumstances.
