"We do anticipate at some point in the future, there will be some criminal charges filed with regards to this incident," Larimer County Sheriff Jim Alderden said.

The saga captured the nation's attention early Thursday afternoon, after authorities reported the family's homemade helium balloon was set adrift, apparently with young Falcon Heene inside.

Since then, speculation has mounted over whether the incident was a hoax by the father, who has appeared with his family on ABC's "Wife Swap," and posted videos of storm chasing and other activities online.

Attention *****.

Fry 'im.

Didn't i see something like that on mythbusters? It turned out to be busted I believe. That helium can not lift anyone.

it wasn't completely busted that helium can lift someone, it just took the Mythbusters 3,500 helium balloons to lift a 4 year old girl a few feet off the ground.

math time...

the balloon was 20 x 5. about 1,500 cubic feet. helium can lift about an ounce per cubic foot. so that's about 93 pounds. google says 6 year old boys weigh 50ish pounds.

so it could've lifted him. but it would've been weighted down, and the balloon in the video was flying pretty easily.
