This is a big loss.  Brown was a hell of an OL coach.

He was for 5 years.  This was his 2nd season as OL coach.

He was made the OL coach when they gave Matsko the title of Run Game Coordinator.

Realistically speaking, a run game coordinator is just an offensive line coach with a different title.

Matsko was the running game coordinator.

Matsko was a terrible Oline coach and a terrible running game coordinator.

We technically wouldn't have to backfill for Brown, but one of the best defensive line coaches in the league might be available right now.

Ron is a long time is going to have to work and find the best out there, not just moving people up and down. I would think Norv would have a big say so in who takes this position, it is his offense.

This is a good point.  Might be why Brown is leaving.

Why bring in an unknown when we can just promote some random assistant, or even the team ball boy?

The head coach is usually the one who decides on assistants, but Ron has enough respect for Norv that if Norv wanted somebody, Ron would probably listen.

So here's hoping Norv wants Russ Grimm.
