NFL tinkering with the outcomes of a game?

As far back as the 1970s, an older friend of mine, who was well-connected with the Dolphins, told me that games were rigged. I was blown away by the very thought back then! I (for myself) have no doubt that things have not changed since then, and I have no reason to believe that my friend was bull-crapping me.

I watched the games-- and I dont believe they were messed with. I really dont. The Patriots were not helped to beat Jax-- and Phili was not helped to beat Minni.  Jax was not helped to stomp the Steelers,.. and Minni was not helped to beat the Saints--

If they would have been manipulated, the Rams would have beaten Atlanta, the Saints would have been beaten by the Panthers,.. and others.

The report posted elsewhere on biggest football markets has the Panthers as number 6, Los Angeles is now number 2 behind NYC(not on that report as its from last year when the Rams and Chargers are still at their former towns), Phili is up there and the Steelers are one of the most popular teams in sports-- period.

It makes no sense-- and I believe that people are so sick of seeing Tom Brady in a championship game and now in another Superbowl that the NFL would have gotten them out and the Steelers past Jax to get in some how,.. and again, the Rams would have gotten further, because the Rams at Phili would have made much higher ratings than Minni at Phili.   The Panthers actually have a bigger market than Atlanta or New Orleans at number 6, so it would have more ratings for the Panthers to go on as well.

Just my thoughts.

To all you conspiracy guys, when the Panthers win games, and other fans say the refs are screwing that team over, how do you respond to those people? Yes, it probably happens in every game the Panthers win. A fan on that team's board will cry foul or rigged or BS. Do you still agree with them then? If you agree with them ... carry on. If you think they're paranoid ... shut up.

I have DVRed a bunch of Panther games this year. It's one particular play that I watched 100x. Its the game at the beginning of the year against the 49ers. Cam throws a pass to Russell Shepard. Shepard spins and runs in for a touchdown. What is so odd about the play is Ron Rivera reaction after the TD. While everybody was celebrating he actually seemed upset as if the team went off script. But why be upset after your team just scored? Maybe we wasn't supposed to score then? just seems fishy. I'm still a Panthers fan I just know that it's entertainment like a movie.

LMAO! Dude, are you serious? Do the teams meet up in secret before the games and practice their choreography?

He was just flabbergasted that the shill he brought in managed to do something productive.

It is hard to overlook.  I have felt this way for many years.

Storylines are exciting to the NFL.  From the day Goodell had those tapes destroyed.  Those tapes IMO would have implicated the Cheatriots on a epic level.  I truly believe they had evidence of blatant cheating.  Tapes that would prove the Cheatriots had everything they needed to win the Super Bowl.

New Orleans and Katrina.

Peyton Manning and the farwell tour in 2015.  Manning was the face of the NFL for many years and they wanted him to go out in style.

How did N.E. shut down the Greatest Show on Turf?

Minnesota screwed the refs on their game last Sunday.  There was no way the refs could have called anything on Diggs. I think the refs were as shocked as everyone was.  The NFL wanted IMO a Brees/Brady match up.  Someone forgot to give Minnesota the memo.  Diggs made a great play and trumped the Goodell game plan.

Good God I don't see how any Panther can't say the refs don't have any influence.  Our SB was littered with bad calls.  Cotchery's catch, which eventually lead to Cam's strip sack, Blatant offsides on the missed field goal.  Batting the ball towards the endzone while the REF is looking right at it.  Play over, Panther Ball.

While they cannot dictate plays they sure can affect the outcome by a well timed flags and uncalled plays.

This has been an ongoing issue since Goodell has been commissioner.

I see why Shepard was sent to the doghouse!

The funniest thing is people here rag on the refs all year, calling them morons and inane ... yet somehow these idiots have the capability of being able to throw a flag at a split second because of an agenda (the play HAS to be able to have the flag thrown btw), or use an ear piece and are told to do something as a play is happening. You all are too much.

Jesus, had the Panthers won the SB or gotten to it this year, this thread wouldn't even be taking place other than, "pretty poor officiating this season," etc.

Get over it. Brady is GOAT, Cam isn't. Bill is GOAT coach. The NFL isn't out to get Cam because he's black, or because he talked back to Ed a few seasons ago. The NFL doesn't dislike the Carolinas to a point they don't want the team to be a success. Vegas will always make theit money no matter WHO is in the game because humans are addicted to gambling and gambling is hard. The storylines you look back on and cry rigged are made as they happen, not before. I mean ... what was the Panthers storyline then? Christ, if everyone hates Cam and the league hates the team why oh why did they put us there? What, like Diggs, we beat the odds?

Unreal.

I don’t think the NFL is determining outcomes, but I wouldn’t be surprised to find out they’re nudging them. It is clear and indisputable that officiating is not fair and unbiased.  The question is whether it’s an institutional problem or individuals.

This.

sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t.
