Ron needs a scapegoat somewhere. Chances of him taking over the defense = zero.

(1)Think about what the fug you just said! Overall defensive rankings are your overall defensive rankings! They are what they are. I don’t give a flying fug that they were 26th in some stupid stat that was cherry picked out for some obscure point.(stupid bullshit).

Simply enough. Where does the NFL grade defenses? And what was our overall ranking on the season? 7th.

(Before our last 3 weeks we were top 5 for the first 13 games of the season. And #1 for about two weeks.)

Stats you can look at on defense are:

1, Total yards.

2, total points.

3, total passing yards.

4, Total rushings yards.

5, total turnovers

6. Total QB sacks/Pressures/tackles for loss.

none of the the other stats matter. Anything more and you’re grasping for straws.

(2) Said this once and I’ll say this again. The reason for the drop off is really simple.(I know y’all hate simple answers) we have a lot of older players on the Defense and as the season went on their play fell off. This isn’t their fault. And it has nothing to do with Film. Now our older players all played great for us Mike Adams, Thomas Davis and Julius Peppers all played key rolls for us this year. But expecting 3 key players aged 34, 36 and 37 to keep up over the course of a season with a bunch of 20 somthing aged players is ridiculous. There was a reason if you noticed Peppers was pretty much getting the entire week between games off. He just couldn’t keep up without extended breaks to recover. The Panthers played a dangerous game with personnel choices and it worked for them for the majority of the year. They just were way too worn down at the end to matter.

I’ve seen this happen many times before and was concerned about it going into the season. Remember 2015?  We had Charles Tillman and Roman Harper that year. Both played great but completely fell apart at the end of the season. Tillman especially so. You run this risk anytime you get players who are hitting their 30+ age range in the NFL. It’s a young mans sport for a reason. 

The Panthers had a old defensive unit in 2017. Our #1 goal This year should be to get younger.

I'd agree with you most years....

but lets be honest...2018 for the Panthers is a make or break year. Everybody will be playing and coaching for their jobs.

Overall defensive rankings are not your overall defensive rankings. It iis a global measure that really doesn't tell you much and only has a tangential relationship to the only stat s that matter which is points for versus points against on any Sunday. They are what they are. 

Simply enough. How does the NFL grade defenses? They use total yards which is really a quantitative stat. It tells you the what but not the why or how. where yards surrendered per play gives a much better understanding of how well you did based on the number of opportunities you had to defend.

(Before our last 3 weeks we were top 10 for total points surrendered and that stayed consistent.

2. Qualitative stats like yards per play. 3rd down efficiency . Redzone TD efficiency, 

None of the the other stats matter. Anything more and you’re grasping for straws.

(2) Said this once and I’ll say this again. The reason for the drop off is really simple. Offenses  got film on our defense getting abused by New Orleans and gave offenses a blueprint to beat us.
