I don't get the hate for Wilks. He's been a good coach for us, I wish him well.

If you want the honest truth, homers here overrate our defense that we've poured so many resources into. People just ramble about DT's like that's all you need. We need real pass rush help.

Our Defense from a quality player perspective. In 2017 we had the 7th ranked defense and it was top 5 for the vast majority of the season. Compare this unit to the 2015 looking at talent, our 2015 unit was way better, not even close. But this years unit was only one spot lower.

Some people around here need to wake up and realize that we will be very very LUCKY to have Wilks for another season if by some reason no one hires him.  He did a fantastic job in Carolina this year, with just Ok talent.

I like Wilks' aggressiveness.  I just wish he varied it up a little more.  I also think he put too much of an onus on our young CB's.  Right now they're better at zone than man, but Wilks had them running man far too often...especially when facing top QB's.  I think this killed Bradberry's confidence.  I saw him thinking instead of reacting far too often this year.  If he does come back I expect/hope that Wilks would make some adjustments to protect the back end a little better...and I also expect some new personnel at Safety.

With all this talk of Wilks' possible departure and Washington most likely to replace him if he goes, does anyone know Eric's defensive philosophy?

I know he has a reputation as a good coach, but don't know if I should expect more of the aggressiveness we got from Wilks (and McDermott to a degree) or a more conservative scheme.  I'm assuming it would be DL focused, but what style should we expect?

TBH...I don't think it will matter. This is gonna become Ron Rivera's defense. With Norv taking over the offence.

The biggest problem i saw was Shula taking off the gas when we had a lead and Wilkes going into a prevent defense allowing the other team to get back in the game . Too many times we just tried to run out the clock and was close to biting us in the butt.  this is why the Patriots and the Saints this year were so good.  they never played not to lose but played to win .

Just speculating but Washington as the DL coach might have more faith in his front four and not blitz as much. I would like to see more of a McDermott defense than Wilks.   I inititally thought his aggressive style would benefit us but in the end, it was terrible.  If Wilks stays I think he needs to re-evaluate his style just a bit.  Hopefully, with some younger talent and a couple of his players off IR he might do better.

Whatever he does he needs to be able to disguise his defense a bit more.  McDerrott was far better at it than Wilks.
