Soooo... which RB will Hurney be selecting in round 1?

I mean yeah he's nothing special but at least we know he drafts better than Gettleman. At least we can count on a good 1st rounder.

And 80% of the players selected after that selling insurance two years later.

Why does everything have to be a pissing match of one upping failures between DG, and Hurney?

We need better than what both have offered here over the years.

We came close with Gettleman, but like Hurney, ultimately he couldn't get out of his own way. If there are people from either side of the spectrum who can't at least admit this, they are beyond reasoning with.

Exactly. I've BEEN preaching this! It's absolutely possible for them to both suck, and that's the case. It's not some weird vacuum where it's only possible that one has to be good and the other bad.

Well, there's one slight flaw with that idea...

It's wrong, and frankly kind of dumb.

Gettleman certainly wasn't perfect, and no one is claiming that he was. He made mistakes just like even the best of them will do. I've never seen a GM not make mistakes. And even guys like Ozzie Newsome occasionally make some moves that leave you shaking your head.

But the plain fact that nobody can dispute without spinning harder than a tornado is that Gettleman led us through the most successful period in franchise history. The only way that you can push Hurney as being even close to equal (forget better, there is no argument for that) is to try and steer the discussion toward something other than success on the field or claim all the success centers around one or two players that came from Hurney. Both of those are dumbass arguments.

We've basically got three types of people here who still argue for Hurney: People who like to argue just to be dicks, people who are fans of certain players more than the actual team and people who either just don't understand football or are in fact, genuinely stupid.

Gettleman isn't the best GM in NFL history, but he's easily the best GM this franchise has ever had. And the sad reality of it all is, if our owner wasn't a lecherous numbskull, we'd still have him instead of round two with the nimrod who only managed three winning seasons out of eleven.

Right now, I'm hoping for a better GM in the future, and hoping that future doesn't take long to get here.

We haven't had a "best GM in franchise history " yet.

If DG was the best GM this franchise ever had, he wouldn't have handed Matt Kalil a blank check, and watched Ted Ginn walk to NO for peanuts and let his team proceed to beat us 3 times in one season.

Weren't you one of those "Hurneymagic" guys years ago Scot? I definitely recall seeing you use the phrase a few times. You can deny it if you want. *shrug*

You want to talk to me about consistency, Red? :)

Truth be told though, I've never denied that I was behind Hurney early on. But then after we started falling off, I began having questions.

And then one day, for reasons that had nothing to do with arguing about the GM, I looked over our entire draft history under Hurney. I remember saying to myself, "Good grief, I had no idea we were doing this badly." Actually posted that on the Huddle too. Took some additional time to look into his resume' and found out that he never even been so much as a scout.

Oddly enough, that revelation is actually what led me to start researching potential coaches and GMs.

Let's just dispense with the dick swinging.

So point blank. Do you agree or disagree with the statement that moving forward, we need better than what both DG and Hurney have brought to us over the years? Yes or no?

We haven't won a Super Bowl yet.

I want us to win one.

For such an old ass dude you are extremely short sighted. Gettleman brought Short and Turner here. That was his best additions as a GM. Star has been less than a star. Kelvin looked like Tarzan, played like Jane. Shaq has played more like Kwame, and Vernon Butler might as well be Vernon the janitor from your place of employment.

You talking about stupid? Goddamn man open your eyes.

Teams are built through the draft. Gettleman set our team back a couple of years.

Yeah those three straight division championships and that Super Bowl trip were a really huge setback.

And please don't try to credit those to Hurney...unless you really want to look like an absolute idiot.

Well there ya go.

Even when Hurney was GM, the primary thing that kept us from ever winning a championship was still Jerry Richardson.

Someone convinced him to take his hands off and hand the keys to somebody who knew what they were doing, but he could only do it for so long.

Now that he's going to be out of the way for good, I have some actual hope.

I agree wholeheartedly about moving from JR football.

But please don't start this meddling rationale. Yeah I think he did to a degree. But JR didn't force DG to hand Kalil 50 million, or let Ginn walk. DG may be some things. But a puppet he was not.

Really, really short sighted. Do you build a winning team with Kurt Coleman, Matt Kalil, geriatric Jared Allen, geriatric Captain Munnerlyn? Looking at wins and losses? A foundation that was laid by Hurney. What pieces to the puzzle did Gettleman add? That is the important part in this. How are we set up to compete long term, with legit NFL playmakers
