Of course, it depends on the routes they have you run too. Ted Ginn caught 75.7% of passes thrown his way this season, a career high.

Brees puts it in the basket.  Cam makes you work for it and puts heat behind it.  Brees sees the WR getting open before he is, and Cam needs more time, which requires more mustard, hurting his accuracy and the accuracy.  Ginn did not suddenly develop hands .  Moncrief is a nice player, but he disappeared when Luck got hurt.  Same dynamic?  I dunno.

Sign a burner for cheap like Wallace/Pryor and sign a guy with reliable hands for cheap like Crabtree.

It's really that simple. Cam has already made the Superbowl without a #1 WR. All he need is guys who can play their position and be reliable.

Pryor/Crabtree/Funchess/Samuel/Bryd is more than enough talent at WR. The problem last year was we had practice squad type WR's who were forced to start because of injury. I guarantee if we had a Pryor or Crabtree in the playoffs, we are still playing.

 

Just get Cam's some WR's who can play their role and be reliable.

FYI Ted Ginn was one of those “marginal players with potential but nothing else” before we gave him a shot. Ginn was very much in the category of Johnson/Shepard/Underwood...a perennial ~300-400 yard receiver. I’m with you on needing to get him a proven playmaker, but it’s ironic that the very guy you’ve been incessantly criticizing the FO about not re-signing, could very well have seen himself washed out of the league if it wasn’t for us hitting big on a marginal, unproven player.

Stop looking at stats to determine who we should sign. Stats mean nothing when a player is going to a different system with a new QB. So much goes into a player stats, just because Pryor had a down year playing with Cousins, doesn't mean he cant bounce back playing with a QB like Cam. Washington runs a totally different system and maybe that affected Pryor's down year. Cam is known for throwing the deep ball, he can get the most out of a player like Pryor who is a deep threat.

Im my business, sometimes to be successful you have to spend. That is the cost of doing business.. I have said for years that JR was more about making the money and hoping for the best as far as wins. We need an ownership that cares about Winning a SB.

However, to play devils advocate, who exactly is going to approve spending the money? We are in a sense, ownerless. I doubt Hurney is going to go hog wild spending someone else’s money without them being entrenched.

He did, but it's fair to say that Brees throws a more catchable pass than Newton.  Brett Favre's passes weren't exactly easy to catch either (he broke at least one receiver's fingers).

Not every receiver is gonna work well with a fireball throwing quarterback.  We have to look for receivers with tough enough hands to handle what Newton gives them.

Brees is insanely accurate and a future hall of famer. Only a troll or a fool would argue otherwise.

But it's a shame this fanbase continually goes out of it's way to minimize Newton's accomplishments though. I'm sick of it, and I will call people out when I see it.

Today's NFL isn't really built around a #1, you have a couple teams with studs as the #1 (ATL/PIT/CIN/NYG) and maybe a few others, the game is spreading the ball and finding the mismatches. 

That wasn't a DC order either, it was a list that I think is a quality rotation of WR's that can all be threats after the catch, minimize the risk, increase the reward -- that is something CMC also provides. 

IMO that group with Olsen, and hopefully more 2 TE sets would help take this offense's passing attack to the levels it achieved in Cam's first two seasons.

I like Funchess, but I still see him as more of an Alvin Harper than a Michael Irvin.  the effort to make him a number one by trading Benjamin didn't really bear enough fruit to call it successful.
