Who's going to evolve in 2018 ? Norv or Cam ?

I highly doubt Norv Turner would have taken the job if he wasn't willing or able to adapt to a QB like Cam.

From Newton, I've seen nothing to indicate there should be much of an issue adapting to a new coordinator. See his rookie season.

Instead of asking what Cam is going to do, you should be asking what our run game is going to be able to do. It doesn't matter who your QB or OC is if your RB's can barely muster 3 yards a carry.

Igo has stated his belief that one of the reasons Shula and Dorsey were dumped in favor of Turner is so that Newton has an actual coach that he has to listen to rather than just someone who makes suggestions he can take or leave. If he's correct, that would lend to Newton evolving.

On the flipside, it's been confirmed that Turner did allow the use of some read option concepts back in Minnesota when he was working with Teddy Bridgewater. Norv has never worked much with mobile quarterbacks before, so some level of adaptation will be necessary.

Will be interesting to watch either way...

I think there could be some truth to this, but considering Newton got benched for not wearing a friggin' tie, I'd have to say I'm skeptical that he's just surrounded by a bunch of yes men.

Maybe not a bunch, but I've never seen anything to indicate that Dorsey qualified as an authority figure.

Shula? Harder to say. It's clear that Rivera didn't think his style was getting the job done on offense, though.

Heck, even Rivera himself may want somebody who's more comfortable being an authority figure than he is.

Turner has been described by more than one former colleague / pupil as "very demanding" of his quarterbacks. I kind of doubt that's something that Newton has seen before.

Of course, that's not something that falls at Newton's feet. He didn't choose the coaching staff.

Truthfully I think most of it is Rivera. If reports are true about us hiring Norv's son as the QB coach, it just sounds like another doing a favor kind of hire like Dorsey.

Possible, though Scott actually worked here before Norv did. He used to be Shula's assistant and some believed he was on track to take on a bigger role with us at some point.

I'd still prefer a more experienced quarterback coach like Wade Wilson, but this seems set in stone now.

I think Cam and Norv will actually work well together (Dependent upon the quality of the O-Line). Not much is really changing as for a the style of offense is concerned. Norv will simply do better the things Shula didn't do or didn't do well.

A) Better game plans and in game adjustments. Shula didn't use all of the weapons at his disposal, neither did he get the most out of the weapons provided.

B) No more wasting timeouts because the O.C. can't decide on which play to run.

C) More shots down the field. For whatever reason Shula neglected this aspect of the offense. When he did send wr's deep, it was more often than not the slower of the bunch. I believe Norv will take no less that 5 deep shots a game to the faster wr's and not the slower ones.

D) Better run design plays using CMC more often and J-Stew in short yardage situations.

E) Armah will finally get some playing time. I believe he's a diamond in the ruff. Norv will have a better time convincing Rivera to play the younger players than Shula did.

F) Expect better situational play calling from Norv.

G) I believe the offense will be much more consistent because of Norv.

This statement right here is why I'm on the drafting Guice bandwagon. I think him and McCaffery will be a formidable tandem for years to come.

But I'm also hoping we make our largest free agency splash ever by landing Allen Robinson
