Final Four and do teams really need an elite qb

Heard an interesting discussion this morning on Golic n Wingo. We’re talking about the final four teams in the playoffs and how only the Pats have an established qb.

So they were asking whether it’s really necessary for a team to have an “elite” qb to win. Can you put together a dominant defense and special teams and just ask your qb to not make mistakes?

Why is everyone under the impression that all these teams have non exsisten offenses?

These teams have surrounded their mediocre to crappy QB’s with good talent.

So... no you don’t necessarily need an “elite QB” but you better at least have some good talent on offense to help mask your QB’s deficiencies

I dont think its so much about having a established QB outside of brady, brees, and Rodgers. Its about how good of a season the other QBs are having. It all comes down to who is coming into the season locked in hitting all cyclinders consistently threw the gameplan and who gets hot at the right time. At the same time that guy can come back down to earth next year and someone else takes his place thats the way i see it.

you have to have an elite something to win it. if you qb isn't elite, then an elite defense can win it. if your defense isn't elite, then an elite qb can win it.

if you have an average qb and an average defense? you're not getting anywhere near the super bowl.

Put a decent Qb in a good system with good talent and you have success. That Minnesota system has made Bradford and Keenum both look like elite Qbs.  Brady is obvisouly an elite QB but you can't deny that he is also in a good system.

Jax, Minn, and Philly also have top 5 (-ish, guessing) defenses, that certainly helps make up for any holes elsewhere.

I'll say this, in today's NFL, you don't HAVE to have an elite QB to win a superbowl, but he has to be able to deliver in clutch moments.  Peyton manning was trash in 2015, but he delivered when needed.  I think what you saw with the insane play by Case Keenum is the kind of play I mean.  It was a great play, but just as well, a bad or non-clutch QB doesn't see Diggs or misses that throw.  Just like surprise players shine in playoff runs at other positions, QB's can do the same thing.  Hell, Joe Flacco and Eli Manning are those kind of guys who have had exceptional runs and IMO, neither are particularly elite QB's (atleast, no where near what Brees, or Aaron Rodgers have been but they have as many or more super bowls).

Summation, teams and schemes win super bowls, we can win a super bowl with cam, but he will needs to be clutch and we need to build a team around him.  So far, we've succeeded with defenses, but failed at putting offensive weapons around him.

wentz was having an MVP year before he got hurt, so really the Eagles don't belong in that category since they have a franchise guy....Case and Blake are the only ones really, but non-elite or non-franchise QBs have been winning the Super Bowl since the start, theres plenty of em...you gotta have a complete team

Case Keenum is having himself an MVP conversation year, obviously spreads the ball around and makes some really good throws. Hes not established but hes doing great.

Bortles-- Bortles gets a lot of flak, deservedly so, but hes not having a bad year either.

Foles did not throw a bad game either, cant say too much considering he started all of like 2 games before the playoffs-- again though he has guys around him that really help.

These guys are surrounded by great defenses first, then offenses with guys who really help their quarterbacks.

So maybe these guys havent been long term franchise quarterbacks, but they are playing good NOW.  Now is all that matters really.
