Why the hate on Wilks?

He switched us from a zone coverage, keep everything in front of you defense, to a man coverage and bring at least 5 guys on every single play.

Defense could never get off the field this year and gave up so many big plays. When it’s 3rd and 10, I miss seeing Kuechly and Davis giving up the checkdown and making the tackle short of the first instead of watching a slant pass go for 30 yards because our LBs are at the line of scrimmage and not back in a zone.

Not to mention that Kuechly and Davis play so much better from space instead of hugging the line of scrimmage as well as the fact that Gettleman drafted Bradberry and Worley to be zone CBs and now they are forced to play a ton of man with no help which they just aren’t capable of doing.

Definetly prefer McDermott’s style for our personnel

He didn't play man most of the time and our secondary was much worse when we played zone which was what we did when teams went to 4 or 5 receivers, no huddle and many times when we blitzed.

Our defense easily would’ve been far better if we didn’t blitz so predictably and ruined our pass rush by doing so. We have been more productive rushing four than we have blitzing.

That then forces the secondary in terrible mismatches and such. Wilks was outright terrible this year so far. Our defense is far better than what we’ve seen on the field, and that even includes our secondary despite how average they are. Our front four alone couldve been enough to gain pressure, but noooo wilks would rather call a slot corner blitz and watch as offenses feast with the open space created.

Eh, it was up and down for him this year no doubt. But we've done Wilks little to no favors with this secondary and how we stood pat offensively this past offseason which put the defense in a lot of tough positions. Add in the fact that we've got a luxury pick at DT who we took in the first round sitting on the bench his first two years on a rookie contract, and you guys wonder why our defense is being passed by while our division improves around us? Well what gives? I thought that was Gettleman's bread and butter? We barely even squeaked by the Bucs to get into the playoffs.

He did alright. I have a positive opinion of him. But he was a rookie DC and it showed sometimes. Also didn’t have much to work with in that secondary. He was a bit predictable on those blitzes but I’m sure he felt he had to with our pathetic Safeties and CBs minus bradberry.

Think about what you said and then look at our personnel and QB pressures and sacks.

jesus Christ Peppers had what 11 sacks this year? I wonder how a 37 year old player could do that????!!!

y'all getting hypnotized into thinking Wilks is good because of the blitzes inflating sack numbers and such, which especially works well against the many weak QBs we played this year.  Kinda like a press heavy defense in basketball.  Looks great, and wrecks weak ball handlers, but you get picked apart by a competent team.  Just like Wilks' gimmick D against competent QBs did.

Wilks was our weakest coordinator this season given what they had to work with.

At one point this season, the DL just stopped getting consistent pressure.  Wilks deserves some flack for being overly aggressive with the front while keeping our corners in soft zone, but Peppers age and Mario's ceiling were insanely apparent.  We need a true 3 down DE on this team and fast.

Hey Steve I hope you're watching.  You don't have to blitz every down and you can still make the opposing QB actually look bad.  That Saints offense that put up 96 points against your defense in 6 halves has managed a whopping 19 points in three halves this season against Minnesota.
