Quick slants or "pick" formations have a much better chance for success around the 5-yard line.

Those plays are also more likely to result in turnovers from the D-line deflecting it, bad throw being tipped by WR, etc. Fade pretty much guarantees no turnover assuming it is thrown to the outside shoulder.

Don't know stats behind them, but that is the rationale
