Hurney is "the worst GM in the NFL"

There's no discernible difference between the fans who years ago once lauded Hurney as a "cap guru" while they coined the "Hurneymagic" phrase,  and the current crop of Gettleman cult fanatics that can't admit he hindered this franchise with gaffes the same as Hurney did. And just like the Hurney homers back then, several years down the line these fans that trip over themselves to defend Gettleman right now will have developed a sudden bout of amnesia when they come to the realization that our window with this core has closed and that Gettleman was in charge and directly responsible for it.

It’s a shame people aren’t held accountable for the bs they post over the years.

Theres nothing worse than someone constantly switching sides and contradicting themselves. Seems to happen with the majority around here

Gettleman is such a bum!  Loser!  He'll probably have to become some kind of radio hack because no one else will come close to even offering him a janitorial job with a team!

People seem to “forget” that too. Many times it’s the same people who used Shula’s lack of job offers(correctly) as a reason he needed to go. I guess it’s whatever fits the agenda.

Arguing that David Gettis deserves a higher draft grade might be the funniest thing I've seen in a while.

I remember when most Huddlers saw a modicum of promise in Gettis and pretty much agreed that he was a pleasant surprise, playing above his draft position and higher than expectations. I also remember people changing their tune with almost irrational quickness once Gettis got injured (and subsequently ended up in Rivera's doghouse).  That's funny too.

Few people called G-man a bum or a loser,  but a lot of people apparently worshipped him as a god who answered the franchise's every prayer.  I wouldn't have fired him at the time,  and I damn sure wouldn't have hired Hurney,  but I'm still relieved that Gettleman is no longer here.  He was too dogmatic in his approach for my liking.

I find it funny how many people basically poo on Shula for having an old school approach  that was out of touch with the modern game,  but then give Gettleman a pass even though his approach was arguably out of touch as well.  Gettleman did preside over the best era in franchise history as far as wins and losses,  but Shula was right there,  and is also the best OC we've ever had if you're looking at wins and losses. People say Shula was terrible at situational play calling,  unable to adapt or get out of his own way (or the team's).  I think the same way about Gettleman and his time here as the Panthers' GM.  Just saying...

Let's be real, though.  No owner outside of Jerry Richardson believes Marty Hurney has what it takes to be a general manager.  And it's pretty well known that Richardson promoted people into jobs for reasons other than that they could...you know...actually do them.

Marty is basically like Derek Anderson.  You might not get burned too badly if he's in for a play or two, but the longer you leave him in the worse it's gonna get.  Your best hope is that he gets benched before he does too much damage.

I'm hoping that the new owners are smart enough to get a real GM and let them run things.

Difference is.... DG was responsible for building both sides of the ball. Shula was responsible for one side that consistently lagging behind the DEF.

I can't argue with you there. I'm just trying to be hopeful. Sometimes "real" GMs have their heads so far up their own asses that they fail to realize that a fresh ideas may just have merit. I generally appreciate people that can think outside of the box.

Plus that same approach is being used by several franchises, including the most consistent winners in the league.

Think the Steelers or the Patriots allow emotion to factor in when they decide on a player?

Except what we had was working.  We were more successful than we'd ever been.

Gettleman was let go here not for any good reason but because our owner is a lecherous dumbass.  And he wasn't even out of work a full season.

If he's let go again, Hurney's gonna get about as many GM offers as you, me or Panthers United.

As a Steelers fan of over 40 years, I find it comical.

True, but Getteleman gets more of the responsibility as well.

People don't necessarily agree with it, but I still say that the coaches,  including Shula, achieved pretty good success during Gettleman's era more in spite of him than because of him.
