Hurney is "the worst GM in the NFL"

2004 and 2007 weren’t on Hurney. We would have made the playoffs if it weren’t for injuries to our pro bowlers.

Delhomme looked like an All-Pro before he got hurt in 2007. His stats were off the charts.

Let me give you a quick historical example that shows just how bad Hurney was (and is) at this.

Some years back, you might recall we had two really good linebackers in Dan Morgan and Will Witherspoon. Both were going to be due contract extensions soon, so there was plenty of talk about what we  could do to try to keep both in the fold.

What did Hurney do?

According to reports, he wrote one big contract for both and dictated that whichever one of them signed it first got to stay.

Morgan got there first. Witherspoon well end up signing with the Rams as a free agent.

Looking back on it now, I can't believe just how completely idiotic a move that was. Make a decision? Structure something that works for both?

Nope. First come, first signed.

That's who were dealing with.

Delhomme never at any point in his career looked like an All-Pro.

He was good enough to do what we needed him to do, but please...

Why don't FO limit Hurney's abilities away to a certain point like Falcons did with their GM Dimitroff in a limited capacity dealing with drafting and choosing players from draft.

Because the only person over him was the guy who was dumb enough to hire him in the first place.

I like Hurney, better than DG. I think this time around he fixes his mistakes from the past, which he still built a super bowl roster. He also drafted the two cornerstones of our franchise in Luke and Cam, and he also got rid of a fat slow turd in KB that everyone loved for some reason, so I'm fond of him.

You weren't around for his previous tenure here, were you?

He also wanted to trade the pick that ended up being Cam so he can he can draft up to get Clausen but miraculously  couldn’t find a suitor.

The sooner the new owners buy the team and kick this bum to the curb the better.  He can go back on radio for another 5 years while other teams once again show absolutely zero interest in him.  My only regret is that the senile pervert in charge wasn't outed before firing the best GM the Panthers ever had.

I love how the only good thing people can say about Hurney is he made the two most obvious draft picks in franchise history. Hey, I guess his total poo performance up to that point is the reason we were in position to make those picks. Yay?

You know Hurney created a super bowl team?

i don't know, he was looking pretty near flawless, better than he had in a long time.

    • If he tries to do that I have a feeling the league is gonna tell him to butt out.
    • I think you are at a major advantage if you have the ability to run the football as a quarterback. It can mask a lot of issues. Much like RG3, or Anthony Richardson, immediate impact is a lot easier with a running QB. Anthony Richardson already appears to be a bust, despite him turning some heads early last year. Vince Young was a ROY. I do think Jayden is a lot better than a lot of those guys, but I think he's got a fair amount of development to do as well.  Stroud looks a lot better than Bryce, I won't dispute that, but he's taken a very big step back this year off of last year. Houston has a myriad of issues on the offensive side of the ball.  This is just a trend we seem to be seeing everywhere. Very few QB's are pro ready anymore, and just when we are ready to give up on a guy, he does the thing where he becomes competent, (not necessarily good). Sam Bradford, Sam Darnold, Baker Mayfield, Geno Smith, Jameis Winston, Marcus Mariota, and so on and so forth. The list of evidence is enormous. But to your point, the highest miss rate of any position in football is quarterback. The vast majority of them do not pan out. More than likely, that is the case here.
