Now, how is this 23-year-old not worth further exploration?

I will say it again, if he was in Benji"s spot all year and stayed healthy he would had put up well over 1k yards and 10td...he put up 70 yards hurt against one of thr best if not the best young corner in the game. If that's not a #1 I don't know what is!

To be fair when Benjamin was here Funchess was still targeted more than him. He was actually targeted much more earlier in the season than later, before Benjamin was traded. Funchess finished as one of the top 20 targeted receivers this season. That's quite a high amount of targets considering Carolina has the 6th fewest amount of pass attempts in the league this season.

Not a bad season for a guy who was basically the same age as most rookies in the NFL.  900 yards and 8 TD's.  Cant stand why so many people are so down on this guy.  Yes...he needs to learn to play his height and use his body to his advantage in contested situations but he improved a ton with that this season.  Another season or two I think he will be beasting out.

He’s 6’4” 225lbs “holding his arm down” isn’t suppose to happen when you’re that size.

This is the exact play you expect to be made from a guy like Funchess.

So pass interference doesn’t apply to 6’4 receivers?? You must be one of those people who thinks that Cam shouldn’t get the same calls as other QBs because of his size.

Haha oh man someone skipped English class. I didn’t say he didn’t try “on the play just before that” I said he didn’t try on the final throw to the endozne, and guess what, he didn’t. I’m a message bord weasel? What does that make you? A gutter rat?

Funchess caught 25% of our total receiving yards this year and 36% of our total receiving touchdowns.

By way of comparison, Julio Jones caught 35% of Atlanta's total receiving yards and 15% of their total receiving touchdowns.  Antonio Brown caught 36% of the Steelers total receiving yards and 32% of their total receiving touchdowns.  These are two of the NFL's elite ffs.  When you talk about game changing WR's, those are the guys right?

I mean, how much more does Funchess have to do?  No one is even trying to say he's either of those guys . . . but looking at the numbers within the context of each offense shows that Funchess is pulling his weight.  I think he could potentially be better than Moose if we ever put a receiver comparable to Smitty on the other side of him.

Funchess may never be gold jacket quality, but he's far from a bum.

After the trade and before Samuel and Byrd got hurt I thought Funchess had a chance to reach 1000 yds.   Once they got hurt Funchess was the key to defenses.   He still made plays.   He is not the "No 1 Receiver"  Given a WR that will command more attention than Funchess will only help make him thrive.

Add in we now have an Offensive Coordinator that will utilize all the weapons Cam has, Funchess is going to have a great 2018.  Mark it down.  1000yds receiving.

This is a contract year for Funchess too, so you can probably expect him to be at his absolute best.  Would be kind of bittersweet if he had a career year this coming season.  1,200+ yards and 10+ TDs, which he seems capable of due to what he shown after KB was traded, and his price tag goes up exponentially.

My problem with Funchess is that I’ve seen him get taken out of games by elite corners. You can blame it on injuries or whatever, but a #1 WR can’t turn into a no show some games when he isn’t even doubled. He flexes after catches, but he plays soft and often gets outmuscled by smaller corners.

In a perfect world he’s a #2, he just doesn’t do any one thing really well.

Ok, ill give you that but something definitely changed. Lets say his "light bulb came on" which means we have alot to look forward too! If that's the case he's still easily a #1.

Yea wish we would just go ahead and extend him so maybe we could avoid the probability(imo) of him having a monster season and a monster pay day.
