Now, how is this 23-year-old not worth further exploration?

He came from Michigan where he had Devin Gardner as a quarterback. He is now the age that most guys are when they come in the league however he has 3 years of experience. Considering his production is mediocre to this point, an extension for a young guy wouldn't be that expensive and you essentially get someone with as much tread as a rookie.

I hated the pick of Funch before the draft . Still didn’t like it when we took him but embraced and welcomed him. Showed some promise as a rookie and I was happy about his rookie year but 2016 was brutal. Glad he rebounded this year and seems to be improving and progressing. I really like Funch now and hope he sticks around a while and gets to be a top tier #2 or even passable or better #1.

It was 3rd and 3 on the NE 46. Game tied at 30 with 1:05 remaining. Funchess hobbled onto the field and caught a five yard out to pick up the first down and gave us a chance to pick up a few more yards for Gano instead of punting and hoping for overtime.

Funchess has heart, he's willing to learn, Cam trusts him. He's absolutely worth further exploration.

Full disclaimer: I've done a complete 180 on this guy since last summer.

And guys like that are what a winning team is built on. They let KB go not because he was bad, but they had seen his top end. Funchess stayed because he has heart, more speed and a lot more potential left to be tapped.

Funchess won't be our team's next Smitty. He sure could be the team's next Moose... and that's something really special.

Idk what you mean by further exploration? Like you want people to give him more clout? The team is sticking with funchess, obviously. Dude had his best season yet, but still dropped some passes and disappeared in games. And obviously he didn’t even try for that last throw by Cam in the endzone. Work in progress but seem like a solid number 2 moving forward

he didnt try? the play just before that he broke up a sure interception, nobody mentions that. and for a message board weasel to say he didnt try, smh.

I think he’s a perfectly fine fit on the team, but I don’t think he’s #1 material. Sure he COULD be, but I don’t wanna bet on it. I wanna bring in at least two WRs to compete for that #1 spot. I want three WRs that can play starting roles. Right now Fundhess is a fine starter and could eventually be a fine #1, but I’d rather find a Smitty (in terms of being a game breaker and guy teams have to plan for) with Funchess filling the Moose role (which appears to be his path).

#1 needs to be someone with more speed and seperation. Wouldnt mind drafting Christian kirk or anothony miller , and also bringing in a free agent and let all of them compete for #1 spot

Lmao Funchess getting better has nothing to do with still needing a Number 1 or better wr's overall

Well, that's really not the point of the thread. I will be the first to welcome a true WR1,  or simply just a consistent playmaker, but they don't fall off trees. If you pay attention to the Huddle,  I've said that I'd get Moncrief and someone else out of free agency.  Personally,  I don't see what I deem as a true WR1 (but my standards are admittedly high) in free agency or the draft,  but that doesn't mean there isn't someone, or someone that can help us get to the mountaintop. In my opinion,  the only way for us to get a true WR1 is to trade for Josh Gordon and all the baggage that comes with him.

There are only like 6 true game breaking #1 WRs in the league. Lets come back and have a conversation about Funchess when he is around 27. Right now he is progressing nicely and honestly faster than I ever thought he would when we drafted him.

Of course!!!!! That is the secret....go out and draft the Julio Jones that is available in every draft. Got it.

I was going to say basically the same thing.  Even if there was a Julio Jones type in the draft,  the Huddle doesn't have the stomach to give up the king's ransom that it would take to get him (see what Falcons gave up).  Hurney would be dog meat (actually dog crap,  because he's dog meat now if you listen to many).

Actually,  when I think of what the Falcons gave up,  perhaps we could risk a one or two on Josh Gordon.  He is the only one being talked about with that type of talent.

he got a lot more opportunities and to his credit he produced a remarkable amount, but he is not a one man show, and we need additional help at WR

in an ideal offense Funchess is at least 2nd option along with Olsen after a true 1 WR

i've been hard on funchess in the past but i'm not convinced he can't be a #1.

he finished this year with 840 yards & 8 TD while being our #1 option for only half the season. if we trade KB before the season starts i'm guestimating he finishes with ~1000 yards & 10 TDs. not bad at all considering how weak our passing attack is. cam finished with 3302 yards which is below is career avg of 3582 per season. if cam has a 3800 yard passing season (like we know he's capable of as he's done it 3 times) funchess likely finishes with 1200+ yards.

there's no guarantee that he WILL become a #1... but i'm just not sure we need to add someone that much better than funchess himself.

I don't think we're going to just throw Funchess out. He's the only WR on the roster who has proven much of anything at the NFL level. We need some other guys, that doesn't necessarily mean we are overlooking Funchess. You could swap Julio Jones or Antonio Brown in for Funchess and we'd still need help at WR.
