Bucky Brooks on Why Norv Turner's a brilliant hire for the Panthers

Cam has problems with his mechanics. He has got to learn to step into his throws. He isn’t inaccurate when he does. He is actually above average when he throws properly.

You also have to factor in dropped passes and miscommunications. Which you def can’t as a fan, and sometime not even as an analyst, because you don’t know if that was where the WR should have been or not.

Also, if Cam had better mechanics, he would hit his receiver more often of course. That didn’t seem to matter against the Saints tho, as 21 points was left on the field. But yeah, “Brees has less to work with.” - Cowherd

That was a joke.....right???

Something isn't adding up for me here. From what I see the Panthers were 7th in the league at 3rd down conversions % this year which is a bit surprising. Anyway, if Cam was the worst passer on 3rd downs and the Panthers were in 3rd and longs so often (not sure if that is the case or not) how did they have such good success on 3rd downs if they were in obvious passing situations?

The article mentions completion percentage on third-down, and the stats you're speaking of are third-down conversions, which encompasses passes, but is not limited to them. Don't have those stats in front of me, but I'd be willing to believe we made a heck of a lot of third downs with Cam's legs, and not so much his arm this year.

I'm all for Norv if he can fix the consistency. I am curious to see if he would totally remove the "read-option" from our playbook, or incorporate it into his own, even just a little.

Personally, I think it's gotten as stale as the wildcat. Every now and then, toss it out there to throw defenses off, but certainly don't make it a staple of your offense.

Cam is bad on third down? That's what happens when you run on first and second and put anyone in third and long over and over.

Cam is actually good on third downs especially third and long

Third down stats can be manipulated, guys like Kirk Cousins, Bradford and Alex Smith all have high 3rd down comp% cause when it’s 3rd and long they check it down and live with the 3 and out. Cam always tries to go for the first down

dude is going to be 66 heading into 2018 season. doesn't seem like long term answer at OC unless he can keep coaching through his 70s too.

He'll give us 2, maybe 3 seasons depending on his health and how he feels about sticking with it, then he'll pass it off to his brother or his son.

Basically, we're bringing in Norv to spearhead the offensive shift to his system with his son coming to "be an assistant" and see exactly what it is his dad is trying to do, then he'll take over once Norv is gone so we have some consistency in system

If this hire doesn't go right and the offense struggles, Shula and the rest of the staff are gutted anyway. So it's a win-win for everybody, really.

I quit reading. Any of those guys on nfl network are losers. OMG WORST COMPLETION PERCENTAGE. Maybe if the fuger had someone to throw to outside of olsen? And McCaffrey helped him this year.

Cmc was the key reason for going from 6 wins to 11. We lost 1000 yards in receiving due to Olsen injury and stew deteriorAted so the key differences were cam and Luke’s health combined with adding cmc
