No prospect screams "WR1" to me after cursory glance

Sutton is already a better route runner than most of the guys on our team, maybe except Funchess.

He's a guy you can design plays around and he wins the jump ball. Excellent body control for a 6'4 guy.

Perhaps that's true,  but I'd still rather have Godwin (not to mention Moncrief,  Lee,  Wallace,  Pryor,  or even Willie Snead).

I wish people will stop saying Tom Brady never had WRs.  EVERY SINGLE WR Brady has had is better than what Cam has had aside from Steve Smith. Lets be honest with ourselves.

Brandon LaFell is better than Brandon LaFell

Got it.

(A lot of those guys would not be half as competent outside of that Scheme btw,)

Any reason why? Players like Moncrief and Snead haven't looked like anymore than just-a-guy type players. Same for Wallace and he's older (though I wouldn't mind him) Pryor had one good year and one mediocre year (though I do admit the scheme he was in was...not very fitting for his skills) and Lee has the highest ceiling, but I'm always concerned when a players best season is their contract year, not to mention I'm not sure he can be a #1.

Moncrief, Pryor and Wallace, and even Lee are likely just flat out faster (not sure about Snead). Snead is a deceptively good route runner, and Lee absolutely has group-leading potential. You must remember that Moncrief and especially Lee came out with lots of potential,  but have been hampered by injuries and situation (mostly injuries which may have actually led to unfavorable situations). Most importantly,  they all have professional experience and are likely to have an impact from day one.

I see a lot of people referencing the steelers but the team i have been impressed by when it comes to receivers is the Jaguars. Bad as that team has been over the last couple years the one thing they have had success at is getting the most out the receiver position. Drafted guys and undrafted guys they get the most even while getting nothing out the QB position.

alot of huddlers wanted dede westbrook and allen robinson in the draft. the panthers staff is just horrible at drafting WRs for the most part.

I'm not even in pro scout or anything but last year i was high on godwin, zay jones, smith shuster , and dede westbrook. But our staff chose to get essentially 2 projects neither of which were full time polished WRs . And before that we drafted a dude that was a TE in college and would take years to develop (Funchess) and the a big ass slow dude with questionable football work ethic in KB. Gettleman really fuged up our WR and defensive backs situations.

Yes.... Players do improve from 1st yr vs 5th for example.  novel I know

That part was mostly a joke but uh

Still you're saying the likes of DANNY AMENDOLA and CHRIS HOGAN are better than players like Ginn, LaFell and Kelvin and Devin.

No they are not better talent wise.

belicheck seems to prefer smart players that play hard every down, rarely make mistakes and get on Brady’s page.

The patriots are also much better at scheming than anyone— get the most out of what they have— also because those players play hard and execute smartly within their scheme.

Brandon Cooks couldn’t thrive in New Orleans and Brees is a great quarterback— but the Patriots so better scheming him in, and Belicheck just said Cooks never takes plays off even in practice— 89 was like that.

we don’t get a lot of that, and we don’t have coaches that scheme to get the most out of them either.

maybe Norv will change that, and of course the players we have need to be what I just said—- high motor, smart, low mistakes, don’t take plays off. This trumps talent. Most haven’t learned that so they all continue to be inconsistent

23 year old Devin Funchess looked like the only NFL caliber receiver on the roster and 21 year old Curtis Samuel played in like 4 games as a rookie...and you're ready to write them off? You're nuts.

The hate is strong in that one.  The release of Shitty will haunt him for the rest of his life.  Dude has a serious bias against anyone brought in by Dave.  It's quit entertaining.

St. Brown has speed after the catch. The same thing we missed from losing Ginn

I like the theory of St. Brown,  but he's not even the fastest or shiftiest of the bunch.  It will take some time for him to develop. I certainly don't  think that he gets a day one grade. If he works out and interviews well, then day two with one of the threes may not be out of the picture.

    • Respectfully, I completely disagree. Last year we were:  32nd in Sacks. 32nd in Turnovers.  32nd in Rushing TDs allowed  29th in Scoring.  We were absolutely atrocious on defense last year and that was with a full stable of weapons in Derek Brown, Frankie Luvu and Brian Burns that played all 17 games.  Using yards per game as a metric to guage our success lacks the context that because our offense was so inept teams were not driving the length of the field, they were starting at their 40-50 yard line.  This year, our Defense ranks:  31st in Sacks. Tied for 19th in Turnovers  31st in Rushing TDs allowed 32nd in Scoring  His defense fails to get pressure, fails to turn the ball over and fails to stop the run. Three things you absolutely have to do to be successful in the NFL.  Denver meanwhile has not missed a beat without him.  If another team wants to hire him as a HC and the Panthers get two 3rds for it I'll wish him the best and pack his bags myself.
