Norv flew back to California without signing a deal.

Well this new development is interesting.  Looks as if Ron is having a tough time selling the idea the Norv.

Let's take a closer look at the situation. Put yourself in Norv's shoes for a moment.  You are retired from football after a pretty successful career and the last experience in coaching didn't end the way you wanted but it doesn't define your career.

You keep in touch with old friends from your coaching days to get your football fix and keep up with their careers.  You contemplate maybe one more endeavor if the situation is right but won't lose sleep if it doesn't happen.  Your wife is against you returning, primarily as a head coach but she's probably against any coaching job all together because of his age and she wants them to spend their remaining years antique shopping or some poo.

Then one day your former colleague and good friend asks if you would sign on to help him out.  It's not the first time he's asked and you've turned him down before.  You agree to a least come in and talk it over.  Your wife probably tells you that you are crazy and should take out the trash and clean up your mess.   You can't wait to get on the plane.

You arrive to meet your old buddy and start to assess the situation and get into the real nuts and bolts of the team and the organization.

You quickly learn that the job comes with no guarantee beyond this coming season, if that, due to the impending sell.  The GM is Marty Hurney (that alone gives you pause).  The team is thin on playmakers and the current scheme is FUBAR.

What would you do?

If that's the case, why come at all? If he's so out of touch that he didn't know about the ownership situation and Hurney, we definitely don't want him.

Turner may be an upgrade at OC but but fug him if he insists on bringing his son along.  If his son wasn't a moron he would be able to get a job without daddys help, and Lord knows we don't need an incompetent daddys boy "coaching" the best player on our team the next few years.  Needless to say, nepotism is a pet peeve of mine.  I mean if he wanted to bring him along and put in some irrelevant water boy type job then no biggie since he can't really mess up anything but QB coach?  Get the fug out of here with that poo.

He is doing it as a favor to Ron. Do you always tell your friends to fug of when they need your help?

I at least hear them out before I say no thanks.

That is kind of what I was thinking about last night. Cam deserves the best QUALIFIED QB coach they can bring in, not some son of a nepotist.

Good luck with that.  No coach that is the best at anytime is going to sign on to a knowingly temporary position.

Turner didn’t come here with hat in hand begging to get back into the NFL.  He needs to be convinced with more than a contract and money.  I’m sure that this included demands of running the offense as well as player releases, FA acquisitions and draft choices.  While RR could give assurances on some of the, he may have been blocked by MH on others.  So this may end up being a powerplay between RR and MH on who runs FA and the draft.

No but I don't waste their time either, if I already know the answer.

Maybe he honestly wanted to try to help?  This situation is unlike any other I can remember.  I can't blame anyone for wanting to take their time to consider the ramifications before committing.

I keep seeing that but don't really agree. Most elite coaches love to work. If they don't have a job right now, they are going to turn down a possible opportunity to coach this year because they might have to look for another job next year or the year after? If they're good and know it, they know somebody will hire them then too if it happens.

I'm sure you can find one or two desperate individuals who will take the job.  I would be willing to bet none of them are in the category of these genius QB whispers you are referring to.
