I don't think Norv is THAT big a stickler on mechanics.

See Rivers' shotput throw

You don't change anything from the waist up once a QB get's to the NFL, it's a recipe for disaster. Rivers broke NCAA records throwing the ball like that, it would have been insanity to try to change the way he threw. About the only case I remember that being successful was Tony Romo, basically Bill Parcells said that if he didn't raise his release point, he'd never be able to play. So he spent an entire summer throwing the ball with a net in front of his face and made the change. That was before he was ever a starter though.

What you can and should work on is foot work. Even with a totally clean pocket, Cam often neglects to set his feet for really no reason at all other than laziness. That's where you see those throws that miss high and wide to an open receiver. Norv can definitely work with him on that.

Rivers has been a sidearm thrower his entire career.

I definitely get the feeling there are aspects of Newton's game they want to work on. Mechanics and footwork might be part of that, but not necessarily.

And heck, Favre won a Super Bowl. Delhomme almost did.

Because he's a HoF people wanna forget that Favre threw the ball all sorts of fuged up and constantly made throws and had his mechanics in a way which drove Holmgren mad.

Elway wasn't exactly a picture perfect thrower either.

Marino was, but he has no rings.

It is a team sport.

It is kinda weird how this has apparently been a done deal for 2 days yet no official announcement. Maybe Norv getting cold feet?

If we don't hear he has taken the job by tomorrow it will not be a good sign for getting NT to sign on.  Maybe Mrs. Norv has the final say at this point.  I listened to an interview from a couple years ago and the interviewer asked NT what he thought about taking another HC job.  NT replied that his wife would hit him in the back of the head with a sledge hammer if he did.

I think it's more like he's doing the interviews.  Ron is going to have to sell him on taking the job I'm certain.

It will all come down to getting Newton to buy in however.  If Cam at with it then we have a problem.

Norv has family with the Panthers. It won't take a sell of the job, only the Panthers completing their due diligence of the Rooney Rule.

It does not. Only head coach and executive positions

So the Rooney Rule is a PR thing. If you don't protect minorities from being discriminated against in coordinator positions, how are you supposed to pretend to do the same for Head Coaching positions; considering the fact that coordinator positions are oftentimes if not always the launch point to a head coach job.

So if you keep minorities out of coordinator positions, they are never going to be qualified candidates when interviewing for a head coaching position against a guy who has experience as a coordinator.

Call the commissioner and complain.

    • yeah. winter backpacking trips were the most miserable and amazing experiences. same with the coldest and snowiest hunting  experiences. i love being in it. makes for incredible memories. the worse it was, the more i ended up loving it. made the greatest memories.  i just want to get out of it afterwards.
    • I forgot about Jackson...definitely elite.  The sad part of your list is that 2 of them were 'there for the taking for the Panthers'.  Rumor has it that Hurney loved Herbert and was vetoed on trying to trade up.  And rumor has it that Frank & McCown wanted Stroud.  I believe both rumors.
    • I went on a solo elk hunt in the Flat Tops. It was awesomely miserable. LOL It was a late season hunt, I think third season and it was forecasted to snap off cold with highs in the upper thirties and lows in the single digits. fug it, I'm going anyway. They were wrong. The highs were in the low 20s and the lows were in the negative teens. I shivered so hard the first night I thought my teeth were going to break. It was the only time I've ever been legit concerned that I might be in trouble. Crawled out of my sleeping bag and got a fire started and suffered through the night bundled up next to the fire. I slept the next two nights literally wearing every stitch of clothing I'd brought with Nalgenes full of near boiling water in the bottom of my sleeping bag. That was the only way to have non-frozen water in the morning anyway. There was about a foot of snow on the ground and the melt/freeze crust was almost enough to support your weight but you'd go crashing through just as you went or make your step. It was exhausting travel and every step sounded like a rifle shot. Hunting was basically impossible. I never saw an elk in those four days, only saw 5-6 deer. LOL It was brutal but I loved it. Absolutely beautiful country that is never been to before and haven't been back since. I needed that four day complete break from society fighting for my life against the elements. I'm weird like that.
