Receivers need to be #1 priority.

And you would be foolish and impulsive.  The only way I would even consider signing that guy is if his contact could be voided without ramifications to the cap if he has even the slightest of problems.  I would not even give a 7th round pick for the guy.  Way too much risk.

Just like in all of life, you play big and win big. For a franchise that has no super bowl and never even back to back winning seasons it’s time to stop this conservative bull poo. Picks are way overrated. How many 2nd round picks have we drafted that don’t even see the damn field? I’d take Josh Gordon and all his risks over whoever we end up drafting in the second round.

We're not getting a risk-free #1 receiver with the 24th pick.

Hopefully new owner will be willing to take more calculated risks.

I would argue that the secondary has much less upside than our WR corps. The only halfway decent player in our secondary last season was 36 years old.

That’s fair. I agree we need to upgrade the secondary, and I wouldn’t be opposed to going CB in the first round of draft. But, IMO, the reason we are not winning big games isn’t on the defense. We can’t score touchdowns. I think upgrading our receivers would fix that.

I’m not even saying we need two. I think if we were to sign a top FA WR to add to Funchess, Samuel, and Byrd we would be in great shape. We have Olsen and CMC to help there too, but adding a top receiver would allow us to score TDs and not settle for FGs. (That way we won’t have to ask the defense to do as much, which would make them better IMO)

I seriously doubt they pick one at that spot anyway.   But stranger things have happened.  The new boss ain't the same as the old boss.  Ron will have free reign to draft who he wants.  If I were a betting man my money would be on a defensive player.

It's not a conservative thing to not throw good money at bad investments.  It's smart investment.

Apologize if someone else already said this, but I don't want to look thru 10 pages.  IMO, we really only need one receiver to start along side Funchess.  Preferably a speed receiver with good hands (not an easy thing I know).  I am ok with Samuel and Byrd being the 3rd and 4th options regardless of the injury problems they had this year.  I am even ok with Bersin being fifth option off the bench.  And CMC can play the slot as well as anyone we have.

But imo, the number one need right now is Safety and or Defensive End.  Johnson seems done, Addison is getting older, and Peppers is old for a NFL DE.  And Mike Adams is older than Roman Harper.

Depends on who is available, but I would try to address the WR issue thru free agency, and use the draft to shore up the DE spot.  I might sign a fa safety and draft one.

It seems like people would have learned by now that we aren't going anywhere without legitimate threats at wide receiver.  So, although I agree that there are other needs,  everything---and I mean EVERYTHING---falls apart if there aren't playmakers at the receiver position. You can't pass or run with any legitimacy.

I don't get the DE thing as being the number one priority.  Are you kidding me?  If Pep returns,  we should be able to have some semblance of a legit pass rush.  Hall isn't chopped liver, folks. The kid from England is an X-factor.  Not saying that we couldn't stand to add a DE,  but it's not THE TOP priority.

I do feel some kinda way about the defensive backfield.  We've invested so much in it, only for it to look sucky against the legit passing games (three of which are in the NFCS). We have to get better! But I'm thinking that we can at least fake it with an inconsistent Bradberry and Worley and experienced vets at the safety positions. You really can't fake having so-so receivers.

As bad as I want some receivers (and all these positions,  really),  I would try and fake it at all of them if we could get a legit left tackle that is an unquestioned, brick wall of a protector of quarterbacks.

You're also not getting a guy who's one dumb move away from being banned for life.

And if he doesn’t get banned and goes on to a hall of fame career...you turn into Mark Zuckerberg’s friend that was scared to drop out of school to start Facebook.

Ron and Hurney will be on Flash Gordon’s 30 for 30 talking about how they were afraid to risk a 2nd round pick.
