Receivers need to be #1 priority.

Take a look at how the first round round receivers did last season. Not too good.

I'm hoping for a FA or a trade for someone in front of Funchess and a draft pick behind him.

We'd have to trade to get the guy to be ahead of Funchess and we can easily get a #3 in FA

I am intrigued by five options in FA (three of which should be realistic).

1. Josh "Flash" Gordon

He is a real WR1---the only one more than likely. He has historical talent,  but also historical bust-ability. We have an extra third  (though no fourth), just saying.  I really don't think Cleveland will part with him.  I'd offer a fifth/sixth and see if they bite.  I'd test the waters.

2. Sammy Watkins

He is a talent, but the injuries are a real concern.  As such,  I wouldn't pay him top dollar (I wouldn't). He has had a few good games, but has certainly not proven to be consistent,  even sans injuries. Of course,  he's never played with Cam.

3. Donte Moncrief

Has somewhat of an injury history,  but is still strong, tall and has good speed. He's actually my number one "realistic" option.  Could be a great value.

4. Marquise Lee

When he has played (yeah, another injury hampered career) and gotten in the groove,  he produced. He doesn't garner the excitement of Allen Robinson,  but he has that kind of upside. He even outplayed Robinson a few times.

5. Terrelle Pryor

He should come cheap after a down year.  The measurements and attitude are there.  Now he just needs a coach to get consistent, game-changing play out of him.

I think that Funchess would play well with any one (or two)  of these guys.  Draft a hot-shot, bona-fide wide receiver out of college with game-breaking upside,  and the opposition will finally have legitimate problems deciding who to game-plan for.

Do we need to add more legitimate options or get healthy?  We should always look to improve the position in the offseason, but we traded our number 1 WR and lost two more to injury. Should we still have had guys that you would feel good about?  And we STILL had a chance to beat the Saints, who i think is one of the best teams right now.  This topic is about how big of a priority WR should be.  I'm just trying to argue that WR should never be at the top of that list.

A combination of both. If we had stayed healthy then the WR corps probably isn't as much of a focus but does anyone really think Samuels or Byrd are guys that need to be seeing the field as a #2 option? I am fine perhaps keeping one or both as a top 5 WR but we still are lacking talent and production in that area. I also agree that we have bigger holes to fill than WR, but it is still a major concern this offseason. Luckily, I think we can get some FA's that might be able to help.

I say secondary is first. I know offense is a must have upgrade, but Coleman is over 30, mike Adams is a done, and I'll never know why they brought that trash ass munnerlyn back.

Look no further than Ron.  He has lobbied to get Cap back in the fold every since he bolted to Minny for more money.  Ron loves him.

Sorry but I disagree, our biggest need is Defensive End imo. If Peppers retires the only disruptive player we have at that position is Addison. Horton makes plays only occasionally, CJ is done, Cox is unproven, and we have no idea who we have in Hall... As bad as our WR core is, the D Ends are just as concerning. Imagine if the D ends stay the same and the injury bug bites them next year like it did the WR this year...

True that Cam needs REAL receivers but our secondary got abused this year. The last game proved that when we ask our db’s to stop a top qb they can’t do it, and Brees/Ryan aren’t going anywhere anytime soon.

Watch the upcoming game with the Vikings, they will stuff the run and force Drew to throw it, difference being they have guys on the back end who can make plays.

We could have easily won this game if we had playmakers at WR. There were at least two dropped TDs, and we had to settle for kicking like 5 FGs. How many more times did they need to stop Brees??? You are not gonna shut Brees down, they didn’t do great, but they did do their part. We didn’t score enough and had plenty of opportunities. Problem is offense, FAR AND AWAY.

I’m honestly not even close to being as worried about the secondary. If we had receivers that could help move the chains AND get in the end zone, the defense wouldn’t look half as bad IMO.  They wouldn’t have to do half as much. I think we should upgrade our secondary no doubt, but I don’t think it is even close to the #1 priority.

I would argue that the secondary has much less upside than our WR corps. The only halfway decent player in our secondary last season was 36 years old.

You sure RB isn't one? Because we've seen how McCaffrey can't carry the load successfully.

Yeah and Fournette looked so great. He only looked good for a couple of weeks all year. I bet u was one that wanted us to trade up for him and give up all of our other picks.

John Brown has a sickle-cell trait which has lead to quite a few complications with his health. He's a big injury concern in my eyes.

A funchess who can catch contested passes would be fantastic in our offense. The one we have who doesn't was pushing 1k receiving yards anyway.

Martavis and Flash are high risk high reward guys. I really feel like Gordon has turned his life around. He didn't get suspended for weed. It was lean, alcohol, and weed, he was a full blown addict. He's since gone to rehab on his own accord to get healthy and come back on the other side. I'm really rooting for the kid and he is one of the best receivers in the game when he's on the field. A 3rd round pick for him or Martavis Bryant are well worth the risk in my opinion. They're young, cheap, and could do well in our vertical passing attack.

I'm not against a Bryant type coming in.  My only think is you have to have all the other boxes checked first and then add him.   So we need a field stretcher in additional a Bryant type.  Because odds are so high you could sign Bryant and he never steps on a field for you.

Shepard did not do much, which was kinda disappointing in his few opportunities. He was open underneath a ton tho, but it felt like when the ball was thrown to him, it was often dropped.

I could get on board with Landry and Robinson for sure.

I am not sure how disappointing it was. He was signed to be a special teams guy, not to have to make catches in a playoff game. The KB trade and the injuries forced him into a role he wasn't expected to have.
