Receivers need to be #1 priority.

Whoa Dez?  Acquiring Dez is worse then the crowd that wants Jordan Matthews.

He's basically an older shorter version of KB at this point. Nothing points to Dez turning his career around after 3 years of declining production.

Guys that can actually get open and catch the ball, novel concept I know.

We cannot rely on Byrd. His small frame has always been a concern, and the fact he could not stay on the field in his first real season does nothing to lessen the concern there.

Samuel doesn't look like a true receiver. Could he develop into one? Sure. But it is far from a given, and his injury concerns also make contingency necessary.

As such, this team needs to add 2 new starting caliber receivers. Someone in front of Funchess and someone behind him.

That is where the focus needs to be.

Without that, the offense will do nothing yet again. I don't care how much Ron wants to get back into a traditional run game. It won't matter if defenses can sleep on our receivers and come out on top.

Also, how do you put so much blame on Shula if you thought our WR's were that terrible?  He was supposed to build a scheme that made terrible receivers good?  It becomes a chicken and egg argument.

Gordon is too big a risk.

Rams are expected to franchise Watkins.

All these people in my wheelhouse!  What the hell is really going on?

All it took was multiple drops from WRs in a playoff game that would've won the game! Oh and by the way... Philly wouldn't have dropped those TDs...

fug Bryant and Gordon.  I mean they are comically in the drug program.   They could only be viewed as luxury players and we can't afford that.   John Brown from AZ would be a smarter pick than those 2.  Dez is basically Funchess that can go up and catch.

Bryant is too big a risk as well.

I want Watkins quite a bit, I think Cam would truly revive his career, but they traded a 2nd rounder and a decent corner for him. Never really expected them to let him walk.

Brown is an interesting name.

The Patriots don't seem to value receivers all that much.  They are continually bringing in new guys.  Same with the Saints.  They let good skill position guys walk and they replace them with lower cost alternatives.  We went 15-1 without any big name wide receivers.  I see everyone in the media drooling when teams sign big named skill position players in the offseason and it usually results in that team being a disappointment (Ex. Bucs, Giants, many more).  I'm not sure if receivers should ever be our #1 priority.  We should continue to draft receivers.  We should continue to look at FA for good value guys.  But i'm not sure if we should make it a top priority.  I still believe in Gettleman's philosophy of always looking for big men, keeping your strengths strong, and defense being what wins championships.  If the QB has good protection, you don't need an All-Pro WR to get open and catch a football.  We also have young guys at the position that need experience and opportunities, so we don't need to do anything crazy.

I am not a fan of breaking the bank either unless you have a HOF caliber guy that you are trying to keep rather than acquire in the free agent market. We obviously need to get healthy at WR and also add some much more legitimate options than we currently possess. The last few weeks we have been largely fielding guys that no one expected to see on the field in anything other than a special teams capacity.

So, you honestly believe that personal performances(from Stew, CMC, CAP and Foster) were the majority of the reason that our running game struggled? Not "Shula ball", complete lack of WR threats to keep defenses honest or uneven OL play?

LOL, DeShaun Foster still plays for us? Holy Hell that's news to me.

For me I think going and getting Allen Robinson as the number one would be a great move.  Then for a cheap deep field threat we could get Mike Wallace...

Arob

Funch

Wallace

Samuel

Olsen

CMC

looking better already

I'd be ecstatic if we could pull that off. That right there is a contending WR core.

yep.  I think people get over focused on having a legit #1.  We just need legit WRs that can check all the boxes.  First and foremost we just need to find someone we know we can line up outside and legitimately make people nervous if they want to get to aggressive with their defensive scheme.
