Receivers need to be #1 priority.

Ealy's talent level isn't the problem.  Never was.  It's his head.

What's tough to understand about that is that he came into the league with this phenomenal story about how he was taking care of his little sister.  Made it sound like he'd be one of the most motivated guys you ever saw.

Why he isn't?  Nobody seems to know.

That's fair. Often with these busts, it isn't about talent level but motivational or psychological issues.

Guys that can actually get open and catch the ball, novel concept I know.

We cannot rely on Byrd. His small frame has always been a concern, and the fact he could not stay on the field in his first real season does nothing to lessen the concern there.

Samuel doesn't look like a true receiver. Could he develop into one? Sure. But it is far from a given, and his injury concerns also make contingency necessary.

As such, this team needs to add 2 new starting caliber receivers. Someone in front of Funchess and someone behind him.

That is where the focus needs to be.

Without that, the offense will do nothing yet again. I don't care how much Ron wants to get back into a traditional run game. It won't matter if defenses can sleep on our receivers and come out on top.

wrong !

I think McCaffery puts on extra muscle in the offseason. He wants to be RB and will do whatever necessary to make himself better. Plus, he did not get enough carries throughout any game to really see what he can do.  Everyone was expecting him to break the big one every play and was disappointed when he only got a couple of yards.  Hard to do anything with only 5 or so carries a game.

I am on board with a proven WR as top priority this offseason. Funchess is not quite there yet as the number one. A good WR opposite of Funchess will only make him better.

Yeah, I suppose so.

Quick quiz: How many times have you heard the phrase "Patriots player suspended for substance abuse"?

Rob Ninkovich was suspended 4 games last season and I think they had one other player get dinged that I can't remember off the top of my head.

The Huddle's love affair with Josh Gordon is neverending.

"Let's trade a high pick for him now!  Hes got his life turned around!"

(Gordon fails another drug test and gets suspended indefinitely)

"Let's trade a low pick for him now! We can get him really cheap!"

I think they're looking at it as jist the cost of say a 3rd round pick to acquire him. In a vacuum maybe that's worth the risk. The problem is that isn't the only cost factor to consider. The other cost is that now you're going to rely on a guy who has proven to be undependable to be a key cog in your offense. Lose that guy midseason and you've thrown a big wrench into the plans. I get that losing a guy midseason is always a possibility due to injury but IMO it's a lot different when it involves a guy who has proven to be undependable due to his consistently poor decision making.

Ninkovich was suspended for PEDs, which he answered with the usual "i didn't know what was in it" bit.

I mean if you're trying to use the Patriots as an example of why the Panthers shouldn't risk getting guys with potential drug or character issues, using the Patriots just isn't a good idea. I think you're overlooking one really bad guy they had.
