Lucas counted against the cap something like 10 million this year and 11 million next year. We couldn't keep him at that price and pay Gamble and Marshall. So we let somebody go and Lucas was the obvious choice. He was a good standup player who did a ton to cement the locker room last year and didn't throw Godfrey under the bus even when he screwed up royally.

If he had been willing to renegotiate his contract we would have kept him and he could have played for what he is getting paid in Seattle. But he had his pride and didn't want less and is now a Seahawk. I for one appreciate all he did for us and wish him the best of luck. It is a shame that free agency greatly benefits some players and hurts others. He benefitted greatly from it when he came here but because a casualty of the same system years later.

After watching Colts and Seattle couple weeks ago I wish we still had Deion Grant. Grant and Harris at safeties would be awesome.

Lucas played corner,not safety,so how Godfrey out played him as a safety makes since.If lucas was starting at safety,maybe Godfrey wouldn't have a job now.The bottom line was money.He had to big of a contract for what they were willing to have on the books at that spot for a player of his age and his skill set.He still is a good corner,but maybe needs to swap to safety with him losing a step ot two with his age

You have no idea what your talking about do you? Most teams have a receiver D's have to double cover (Smith often sees triple coverage). When a CB is in man coverage against the teams best receiver he usually has help over the top. When a you have a screw up rookie back there that is out of position it makes it seems as if the CB blew the coverage when in fact it was the safety. He didn't outplay him he made him look like crap (he didn't look all-pro before but he was decent). Godfrey IMO is the worst defender not named Hayden that has started in the last two years for us. He has potential but we should have a vet back there teaching him.

Very. I would have rather have him restructure but I really wasn't upset at all with the cut. Just wish Godfrey had never seen the field last year.
