This fan base has fallen off a cliff when it comes to this Norv Turner hatred

i think there are some legit concerns over norv.

is he an upgrade over shula? i'm 95% certain he is. what he's coming into is a situation where he's lacking chemistry with the team (players) and that might be an issue. changing direction in the offense might also make it look like a step backward. while the playbook is probably largely similar to what we've had, what we've had is a bastardized version of his original with new, and maybe, simpler vocabulary which is very likely to be a problem for cam and the rest of the team. from what i've read, norv's vocabulary in his playbook can be quite length. not sure if it's WCO lengthy, but still isn't made to be short which may disrupt what little rhythm we've got. blocking schemes may be different as well, which may take a few games to adjust.

now, this would be a concern for any OC coming in. if it is indeed norv coming in, there will be less of a learning curve than if someone from a WCO was coming in. regardless of who it is coming in, it's going to be a change and we may see a set back for the first few weeks or even season, depending on how long it takes for everyone to get on the same page and for norv to find out what works and doesn't work with our personnel (which shula and chud were never all that concerned with, fwiw).

i think the biggest concerns about norv is the fact that he's a dinosaur. now he may a hold back from a pretty exciting brand of football (air coryell was always my favorite) but the fact remains it's not particularly progressive in it's design and pretty easy for defenses to diagnose what we're going to do because so many have been influenced by the coryell system, so many have had experience coaching with, being coached by, or coaching against norv led offenses that there's a whole lot of knowledge of his tendencies (and one of the complaints of him were that he was pretty predictable).

we look at the offense and look at what gets cam in his groove and it's an uptempo, no or quick huddle offense, and he's got to get his legs moving for him to get on top of his game. that doesn't exactly sound like a norv led offense. the concern is will we be trying to put a square in a round hole in trying to run this offense? will we have an even more predictable offense than what we've had before?

these are all legit concerns, imo. and it's worth discussing.

Lol wat.

That offense was nothing like what we’ve been running here with Newton.

You didn't ask who else runs our offense scheme you asked what quarterback had to both run and pass equally well. I said Vick but could have added Steve Young or Randall Cunningham. Offenses continue to morph and change so they have to be built for that team and those personnel but he clearly was the first running quarterback and won't be the last. Alabama on Tuesday used their quarterback more as a runner than a passer.

No. I asked you to name another situation where an offense relied on a QB to perform at a high level as a passer while also utilizing designed runs as a primary ball carrier the number of times we have asked Cam to.

The fact that you were unable to differentiate between the burden we have put on Cam and what say, Atlanta did with Michael Vick, tells me all I need to know about your football accumen.

I think I will trust former players like Torry Holt and NFL experts who say that Norv is a great offensive mind as opposed to internet message board posters who are listening to Browns and Vikings fans who expected Turner to turn chicken crap into chicken salad.

Most longtime NFL fans are aware that Turner is a great offensive mind...

I have been hard on one poster who keeps claiming some only watch panthers football and are somewhat ignorant...I may be coming around a little...but I think that would be a small group.

When you say that Norv is “better” than Mike Shula, you really aren’t saying much. Basically anyone Ron would talk to is better than Mike. I think most people are worried that it’s going to be business as usual and our offense won’t be any better with Norv on the sidelines, and it’s a legit concern.

There's not a doubt in my mind that Ron will not be around after this extension is up and hopefully before.  Gettleman was going to let him hang himself with the Shula rope which he absolutely did and would have been fired for if we hadn't fuged that whole situation up.  Ron will live and (more likely) die by his own guys.  This will be another instance of that.  We should have fired Rivera years ago when we had the chance.

Quoting this because it is so utterly stupid that I want to draw attention to the fact that there are fans like this out there that have no clue about what the fug they are talking about but are mad as hell about it.

So off on so many levels I literally do not know where to begin! Literally mind boggling....

I think Shula was an unfair scapegoat for who truly is holding back this team (Rivera)

Still I firmly believe in hiring an up and comer with a fresh take. Swing for the fences. I'm tired of the same old same old, slightly better than middle of the pack
