KB- Wide receiver with a TIGHT end body

Funchess- played tight end in college moved to WR in nfl

Curtis samuel- Part time Rb and Wr in college. Fulltime receiver in nfl.

This team needed legit receivers for a longtime and despite the talent of these guys Gettleman made it more difficult than it had to be. Dont know wtf he was thinking when it came to this position.

I did not read this before posting almost the same thing.  Great minds...

You didn't mention Shepard, he is a pure WR.

Let's take a look at the slot WR spot.  Here are the people who can play it on our roster:

Samuel

CMC

Byrd

Clay

Personally, I think CMC should become more of a slot WR than RB.  Get a RB who can run between tackles and a #1 WR.  CMC and Samuel can be 3rd down backs.

With continued learning, he may just turn into a deadly weapon at the receiver position.

So many people talked mass trash about Funchess, who also came in super raw,  and his ability to play receiver, but he has proved that he absolutely needs to be a wide receiver that's on the field consistently in my opinion.

Not saying that the OP won't end up being right,  but don't limit Samuel or any other player by what they did in college.

To me

1. Samuels seems made of glass

2. He catches too many balls with his body, not his hands and that results in drops or worse yet bounces in the air off his body for interceptions

3. Not sure he can run routes

this team needs a true number 1 receiver, not Funchess, not gadget players and as they are abysmal at drafting one, go get one in free agency

No he’s not.

Shepard had 104 rushing attempts in college vs only 58 receptions in 4 seasons.

This organzation is always trying turn people into WR’s who are not WR’s... just like Samuel.

Samuel’s draft profile reads exactly as what you see. Everything I’ve said is in there too but not to the extent I go. But they mention his hands as well something Saca loves to fight me on.

Samuel is suppose to be this big splash play guy but doesn’t have the big splash play highlights to support that.

You also want to watch the plays he doesn’t make. I’ve seen the 49 min video before and it’s just the plays he made. You can learn a lot from watching plays a player doesn’t make

I think Samuel can be a productive receiver for us but it will take time. He didn't have a full off-season. He limped into the regular season hurt and limped out injured. However, in his limited time playing he got good separation and defenses took notice of his speed. I felt after he and Byrd went down, that was the end for the offense.

Not Funchess! So, he didn't prove anything to you?

Yeah,  I feel like straining your calf/hamstring in the off-season, but returning for week 2 of the regular season and playing 9 games up until you abruptly break your foot in week 10, does not really point to "can't stay healthy". He played 9 games before breaking his foot on one play.

He was only targeted 26 times in those 9 games, but still 3 targets per game.

I would just say a hamstring pull/strain in the off-season comes from not being ready to practice (out of running shape).

Here's where Samuel and CMC can do some damage.  Using the Jet Sweep movement along with the read option.

That happened earlier in the season (I think) to some kind of success.  Whoever ends up as the OC needs to use him as both a runner and receiver with and without CMC on the field.

I hope he's able to deliver on the tons of talent he has.  We need him!

Ok, so a rookie in the NFL who has never practiced under NFL conditions, comes in a little unprepared and strains a leg muscle. It keeps him out until week 2 of the regular season. He plays 9 games and breaks his ankle on a freak play.

What makes you think he will come into this off-season with the same lack of preparedness?
