REPORT: Panthers will hire Norv Turner as OC

The fact that nobody remembers what Norv Turner can do with actual pieces in place is baffling. He worked with the Chargers in their prime and had them competing. Could never get over the hump due to just losing in bad spots late off turnovers or the defense folding. Then when SD lost their star studded backfield and best WR and half their OL, wouldn't ya know they suffered. Couple that with bad management and draft picks/trades, SD never could rebound.

Minnesota was about the turmoil among the staff and Bridgewater being the QB and Zim getting in his way.

It is a fact that he is a huge upgrade to that waste of sperm.  But it's uncertain if he still has the mojo left to unf**k the situation.

Not gonna lie, I wouldn't be excited because I think the game may have passed Norv by, but right now I'm still just glad that the Shula era is over and I'm willing to give Norv a chance.

Whatever. Norv Turner is an actual legitimate NFL football coach that didn’t get to where he was because of his last name.

Then again, Cam can make anything work, so I wouldn’t be surprised to see Cam still do fine, despite how clearly difficult his job will be from here on out.

We still have a strong defense, and with Wilks likely out we can easily get an upgrade there. I long for the day we get a true offensive mind to let Cam loose, but even if our offense never reaches its full potential we’ll still be competitive with a tough defense.

With that being said, we get Norv, we’ll definitely be drafting a workhouse runningback. Norv was quoted in 2013 to saying he wanted Trent Richardson to get 300+ carries a year.

Our offense will be bland with a few splash plays here and there, but hopefully it’ll work out and Cam doesn’t die.

I'm honestly surprised there aren't more people excited about Norv Turner being the OC, this is big news!! easily the most prestigious OC we have ever had as a team. I'm down right giddy at the idea of getting Turner.

i'm honestly surprised about all the pessimism about this. i think he's the perfect guy to keep the system similar but call a more educated game.

You do realize that Philip Rivers thrived under Norv, right?


Fix the OL, get a dominant WR or hope Byrd/Samuel can develop into deep threats for a full season. Boom. 2008-2010 SD Chargers when Philip Rivers was posting a season QB rating over 100.

This. Shula did some good things and had tricks up his sleeve. But he made too many stupid calls and was awful making adjustments. Turner is a big upgrade.

Norv wasn't a great head coach, but when he lost a head coaching job he'd go back to doing what he was really good at and before long somebody else would offer him another head coaching job.

After Minnesota, I think he decided to step away. He is getting up there and may well be more focused on his son's career now than his own.

But in the video MJ posted, he said he'd be willing to return to coaching only for "a unique situation". You could make a pretty good argument that we offer that.

I’m gonna be positive about this and say Turner will help Cam in more ways than we can imagine. This is a good move.
